The best Nokia phone for you depends first on whether you need Android apps and smartphone connectivity or only calls and texts. Among the documented Nokia-branded smartphones compared here, choose the Nokia G42 5G if repair options and battery capacity matter most; choose the Nokia X30 5G if you value a sharper AMOLED screen and more versatile listed camera hardware. Neither is automatically the best buy today: check local availability, price, warranty, carrier compatibility and current software support before purchasing.

Which Nokia phone is best for me?

Start with the kind of phone you need, then compare the features that affect how you will use it. HMD Global Oy is the licensee of the Nokia phone brand; Nokia Corporation is a separate company. HMD has announced models including the G22, G42, XR21 and X30, but an announcement or newsroom listing does not establish that a phone is currently sold or supported where you live. This guide focuses on documented attributes of the G42 5G and X30 5G, not a complete survey of current basic phones or local inventory.

  1. Decide whether you need a smartphone. If you rely on Android apps, mobile data and smartphone features, compare smartphones. If you need only calls and texts, a basic phone may suit you better; these two smartphones are not a comparison of the full feature-phone market.
  2. Rank your priorities. Consider camera and display, 5G and carrier bands, battery capacity and charging, repairability and parts access, remaining OS and security support, then local price and warranty.
  3. Match the priorities to the evidence. The G42 has the documented component-level repair options and larger battery capacity. The X30 has the higher-resolution AMOLED display, a main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a named ultrawide camera and a higher stated ingress-protection rating.
  4. Check the exact device in your market. Verify the regional model and variant, network bands, SIM configuration, stock, seller, warranty and current update status before paying.

Nokia G42 5G vs. Nokia X30 5G

The figures below come from HMD Global’s manufacturer datasheets. They describe published specifications and launch-era software promises, not independent comparative testing or confirmation of current availability.

HMD’s G42 datasheet lists 4GB/128GB and 6GB/128GB variants and microSD support up to 1TB. Confirm which variant is offered locally. A spec-sheet advantage—such as a higher resolution or larger battery—does not establish overall image quality, display quality or real-world runtime.

#1 Best Overall

Product is not compatible with AT&T, Verizon or their subsidiaries. Product requires a nano SIM card size.
  • Fast, efficient processing power and a three day long battery to take you through the weekend.
  • 50MP dual camera with advanced AI imaging.

Which Nokia has the best camera?

On the listed hardware alone, the X30 is the stronger camera choice of these two: its 50MP main camera includes OIS, and it has a 13MP ultrawide camera as well as a 16MP front camera. The G42 datasheet lists a 50MP main camera but does not state OIS. Megapixel counts and feature lists do not prove which phone takes better photos in practice; no independent comparative camera test is established here.

Which Nokia phone has the best battery life?

The G42 has the larger stated battery capacity, 5000mAh versus 4200mAh for the X30. The X30 supports 33W charging, compared with 20W for the G42. Capacity and charging support are useful specifications, but neither alone establishes how long a charge lasts or how quickly a phone charges in everyday conditions; actual results vary with use and network conditions.

Rank #2
Nokia G60 5G | Android 14 | Dual SIM | Unlocked Smartphone | 6/128GB | 6.58-Inch Screen | 50MP Triple Camera | Pure Black

  • This Android 14 5G smartphone lets you choose or change carriers and data plans; compatible with GSM carriers including T-Mobile (AT&T and AT&T subsidiaries are not supported). Please confirm device compatibility with your carrier before purchasing.

HMD’s 2023 G42 datasheet describes “3-day battery life” based on its real-life usage test. It also says the battery was tested to maintain more than 80% of its original capacity after 800 full charging cycles, adding that this is “about four years of charges.” These are manufacturer claims and test results, not independent findings or guarantees for every owner.

Is the Nokia G42 repairable?

HMD identifies the G42 battery, charging port and display as QuickFix-repairable, and iFixit lists G42 guides and parts. That makes it the documented repair-oriented choice in this comparison, but the existence of parts and guides does not guarantee local stock or make every repair suitable for every owner.

Product is not compatible with AT&T, Verizon or their sub1sidiaries. Product requires a nano SIM card size.

  • Review the relevant guide, kit requirements and repair steps before attempting a repair; use professional service if the work is beyond your skill level.
  • Confirm the terms of your warranty and the availability of local service before opening or repairing the phone.

Does the Nokia G42 support 5G?

Yes. HMD’s G42 datasheet lists 5G, as does the X30 datasheet. Support on the specification sheet does not guarantee 5G service on every carrier or in every country: check the exact regional model’s supported bands against your carrier’s requirements before buying.

Is the Nokia X30 still worth buying?

It may be worth considering if its FHD+ AMOLED display, OIS-equipped main camera, ultrawide camera or IP67 rating matter to you and the phone is available at a suitable local price with an acceptable warranty. The X30 launched with Android 12 and a promise of three OS upgrades plus three years of monthly security updates from global launch. That is a launch-era commitment, not a statement of how much support remains today. Verify current Android and security-update status with HMD for the exact regional device before buying.

HMD’s 2022 X30 datasheet describes its construction as “Made with 100% recycled aluminium and 65% recycled plastic.” Those are manufacturer-stated material figures, not independently audited comparative sustainability findings. The datasheet’s IP67 rating is higher than the G42’s IP52, but neither rating means a phone is damage-proof.

What to verify before you buy

  • Availability and seller: Confirm the phone is in stock in your country and identify who is selling it. HMD’s announcements do not prove present local availability.
  • Exact model and network: Check the regional model, storage/RAM variant, SIM configuration and carrier-band compatibility.
  • Software support: Ask HMD or consult its support information for the current Android and security-update status of that exact device. Do not treat launch promises as remaining support.
  • Total purchase terms: Compare the actual local price, warranty coverage and return terms rather than relying on a price or offer from another market.
  • Repairs: For the G42, confirm part stock, model match, guide suitability and service options before counting repairability as a practical benefit.

HMD handles Nokia phone product and support information; Nokia Corporation is a separate corporate entity. Use the support route applicable to your country and device.
