Choose by matching the speaker layout to your room and the outputs on the device you’ll connect. A compact stereo pair suits a simple desk setup; a 2.1 system adds a dedicated subwoofer for bass; and 5.1 surround makes sense only when you can place five satellites and your source can output multichannel audio.
What stereo, 2.1, and 5.1 mean
Stereo (2.0): two speakers
A stereo pair has two main speakers and no separately listed subwoofer. It is the simplest layout to fit on a desk and connect to a computer or other device with a compatible output. Logitech’s Z150 is a compact example: its current manufacturer-listed specifications include two 2-inch drivers, 3 W RMS total output, 3.5 mm inputs, and a headphone jack. Logitech describes it as designed for small spaces: Z150 product details.

2.1: two speakers and a subwoofer
A 2.1 system pairs two main speakers with a separate subwoofer. Choose this layout if you want a dedicated bass enclosure and have a place to put it; it takes more room and adds another part to position and connect. Logitech’s Z313 is a straightforward wired option: the manufacturer lists 25 W RMS, one 3.5 mm input, and a wired control pod. The Z313 product page says a device can connect through the 3.5 mm input on the subwoofer.
The Z407 adds more connection and control options. Logitech lists Bluetooth, micro USB, and 3.5 mm connections, a wireless control dial, 80 W advertised power, and 20 W bass on its EU product page. Bluetooth and a wireless dial do not make the speakers wholly wireless: the product also lists wired connections. Check the page for your region before relying on its specifications or availability.

5.1: five satellite channels and a subwoofer
A 5.1 system adds five satellite channels plus a subwoofer. It requires space for the satellites around the listening area, suitable cable routes, and a source that can send multichannel audio through an input the system supports. Logitech’s Z906 is a 5.1 example. Its manufacturer-listed specifications include 500 W RMS, Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, and optical, coaxial, RCA, and six-channel direct inputs. See Z906 product details.
Decide what fits your room and content
Start with placement
- Choose stereo if you want two speakers that can sit near your computer and want to keep the setup compact.
- Choose 2.1 if you want a separate subwoofer and have a suitable place for it.
- Consider 5.1 only if five satellites can be positioned around your listening area without impractical cable runs.
Match the layout to what you listen to
For calls, music, and ordinary computer audio, two speakers may be all you need. Surround is more compelling when games or video provide multichannel audio. A surround system cannot recover discrete surround information that the source does not contain. The Z906 guide describes Stereo 3D and Stereo 4.1 modes as effects applied to stereo input; these are processing modes, not native 5.1 soundtracks: Z906 user guide.

- Convenient Control Pod
- 25 Watts (RMS) Output
- Compact Subwoofer
Check the device’s actual outputs
Before choosing a model, inspect the ports on the computer, television, console, or other source. A 3.5 mm output may suit the Z313; the Z407 offers Bluetooth, micro USB, and 3.5 mm; and the Z906 accepts a wider mix of digital and analog inputs. For example, the Z906’s optical input is useful only if the source also has a compatible optical output. Match the output and input rather than assuming that a product’s general compatibility description guarantees a connection.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesConsider bass, controls, and sources
A subwoofer adds a dedicated bass enclosure, but it also needs space and a practical location. If you value simple wired controls, the Z313 has a control pod. If you want multiple connection methods and a wireless control dial, the Z407 offers those features. The Z906 has a control console and remote for its more involved surround setup.

These power figures are manufacturer-listed specifications, not a common measurement that establishes which system sounds better. The available product information does not provide a controlled, comparable listening test, so it does not support a sound-quality ranking.
Use this selection order
- Identify the source. Check the available audio outputs on the computer, TV, console, or other device you plan to use.
- Pick the layout. Decide whether two speakers are enough or whether a separate subwoofer is worth its space.
- Verify surround prerequisites. For 5.1, confirm that the source can provide multichannel audio, that its output matches a system input, and that five satellites can be placed around the listening area.
- Compare controls and connections. Choose among models in the layout you want based on their actual inputs, controls, and placement needs.
- Check local listings. Confirm current model availability and price in your country before buying. Logitech’s U.S. speaker category shows a U.S. assortment, not a guarantee of stock or price in every market.
What the specifications can—and cannot—tell you
Specifications help establish layout, stated power, and connection options. They do not, by themselves, show how a system will sound in your room or prove that a higher wattage or a larger speaker count is better for your needs. Use the published figures to check whether a model matches your setup; do not treat unlike power ratings as a direct quality score.
