The best cabinet pulls are the ones that suit your cabinetry and feel right to use—and fit the holes or mounting plan you have. Before choosing a finish or profile, check center-to-center spacing, overall dimensions, cabinet scale, and screw length. Those details matter whether you are replacing one pull or planning hardware for a full kitchen.
How do you choose a cabinet pull style and finish?
Start with the look and feel you want, then compare the actual dimensions and mounting requirements of the products that fit that direction. Bar pulls give a clean, linear profile; cup pulls are commonly used on drawer fronts in traditional or transitional kitchens, according to Emtek’s style guide. Edge pulls offer a more discreet profile, but their sizing guidance differs from that for conventional pulls.

Finish and material also affect how hardware reads against cabinet doors and nearby fixtures. Emtek’s cabinet hardware guidance lists stainless steel, brass, bronze, zinc, ceramic, wrought steel, and glass among the materials used. Compare the specific product’s material and finish rather than assuming that similar-looking finishes will match exactly across brands.

How do you measure cabinet pull hole spacing?
For a replacement pull that will use two existing holes, measure center-to-center (C-to-C): the distance from the center of one mounting hole to the center of the other. Match that measurement when selecting a replacement. C-to-C is not the pull’s overall length, so check both dimensions in the product listing. Emtek explains the measurement in its guide to where to place cabinet hardware.
- Remove the existing pull if needed to see the mounting holes clearly.
- Measure between the centers of the two holes—not from the outside edges of the pull.
- Compare that C-to-C measurement with the replacement’s listed mounting-hole spacing.
- Check the replacement’s overall length and projection as separate dimensions so it fits the cabinet and provides the grip you want.
If the new pull’s C-to-C spacing does not match the existing holes, you will need a different pull or a new mounting layout. Do not rely on overall length as a substitute for mounting-hole spacing.

What size cabinet pulls fit your drawers and doors?
Use the cabinetry’s scale as a guide, then confirm the product dimensions. Emtek recommends considering cabinet size and style, and suggests longer pulls for larger drawers and cabinets. That is manufacturer guidance, not a universal sizing formula for every pull type.

Edge pulls have a more specific proportional recommendation: Amerock’s edge-pull category says they should be no more than half the drawer width or one third of the door height. - Compare a pull’s overall length with the door or drawer front so its profile looks appropriately scaled.
- Check projection and grip as well as length; the pull must be comfortable to grasp and clear adjacent surfaces.
- For a coordinated installation, compare profiles and finishes across the cabinets while checking each item’s measurements independently.
How do you replace cabinet pulls without drilling new holes?
Choose a replacement with the same C-to-C spacing as the existing mounting holes. Also verify the pull’s overall length, projection, finish, and supplied screw length in the specific product listing. Matching the hole spacing is what lets you reuse both holes; a similar appearance or overall length alone does not establish fit.
What should you check before drilling new holes?
New holes require a layout decision as well as a hardware choice. Select the pull first, use its specified mounting-hole spacing to mark the locations, and double-check the measurements before drilling. A pre-measured drilling template or cabinet hardware jig can help keep hole placement consistent across doors and drawers; it is optional for a replacement that reuses existing holes. Will the supplied screws fit your cabinets?
Check the thickness of the door or drawer front against the screw length supplied with the exact pull. Emtek says it provides two screw sizes with each knob or pull and notes that extra-thick cabinetry may need longer screws. Confirm what is included with the product you are buying; do not assume that every manufacturer or model supplies the same sizes.
