Choose an Android phone by first deciding whether it will run a public single-app kiosk, serve staff using a limited set of apps, or show a fixed dashboard. Those jobs have different requirements for user access, device management, visibility, power, and heat. There is no universally best phone for continuous display: the right candidate is the one that works with your management setup and remains readable and stable in the actual installation.
Start with the way people will use the device
Public, single-app kiosk
For an unattended public kiosk, preventing users from leaving the intended app is a core requirement. Android’s lock task mode can restrict a device to an allowlisted app or set of apps. Screen pinning is not equivalent: a user can exit it. For an organization-managed deployment, Android describes dedicated devices as fully managed, company-owned devices intended for work use only. See Android dedicated devices.

Staff-facing device with limited app access
If employees need more than one app, decide which apps and system controls they must have before choosing a kiosk policy. Lock task mode can allow a set of apps rather than only one. Android Enterprise’s dedicated-device guidance also describes locking apps to the screen. Confirm that the intended enrollment and policy are supported by the EMM or management provider you plan to use.
Personal or low-risk dashboard
A phone used by one person for a simple dashboard may not need fleet enrollment. An app can keep its activity on while it is in use, subject to the app and device settings. This is a lighter-weight choice, not the same security boundary as a managed kiosk: anyone with access may be able to leave the display app or change settings.

Decide what “always on” means
A sleeping phone’s ambient or marketing-labeled “Always-On Display” is not the same as keeping a full dashboard app brightly visible. If users must read and interact with the dashboard at all times, plan for the active screen to remain on. Android’s dedicated-devices cookbook documents keeping a kiosk activity’s screen on and keeping a fully managed device awake while connected to AC, USB, or wireless charging. It also recommends checking whether the device is plugged in.
Before buying, establish what the display must show, whether it needs touch input, and whether portrait or landscape orientation is required. Judge text and controls from the distance people will actually view them, in the installation’s ambient light. A phone that looks readable in a shop or at arm’s length may not be legible across a counter or in bright daylight. Test the complete app and screen arrangement rather than choosing by screen size or peak brightness alone.

Account for static-image wear on OLED
Persistent dashboards often leave labels, status bars, or controls in the same places for long periods. Google warns that on Pixel OLED screens, showing the same image for a long time at high brightness can affect colors or cause burn-in; its Pixel screen guidance does not quantify how quickly this may happen or compare panel types across manufacturers. Keep brightness no higher than necessary and, where the dashboard allows it, vary or shift persistent elements. Treat display wear as a deployment consideration rather than assuming a particular phone will be immune.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

Continuous power does not eliminate heat constraints. Google’s Pixel guidance identifies prolonged charging at high temperatures as a battery consideration. Its temperature guidance says excessive internal temperature can reduce performance or connectivity, prevent charging, or shut down the display or phone. These are Pixel-specific cautions, not a quantified comparison of endurance across Android brands.

- The only iPad floor kiosk with a built-in literature holder: retail managers, event coordinators, hospitality operators, and facility directors get the best of both worlds, a tamper-proof lockable steel enclosure that secures your iPad against theft in public environments, plus an integrated document holder that keeps brochures and pamphlets at the same customer touchpoint. Ideal for retail stores, trade shows, libraries, hospitality counters, and other high-traffic public spaces. Tablet not included.
- Compatible with iPad Gen 7-11, Pro, Air & A16, bare tablets only: fits iPad Pro (10.5", 11"), iPad Air (10.5", 10.9"), iPad A16 (11"), iPad 10 (10.9"), iPad 9 (10.2"), iPad 8 (10.2"), and iPad 7 (10.2") up to 2.2 lbs. Four interchangeable mounting plates configure the enclosure for home button access, camera cutout, hard button cover, or full coverage, so your enclosure fits your specific model and use case. Requires bare tablet, not compatible with cases. Note: iPad Pro 12.9" is not supported.
- 90 degree rotation and 75 degree tilt, flexible viewing for POS, signage, and registration: rotate between portrait and landscape orientation and tilt up to 75 degrees to reduce glare or match your application layout. The tilt mechanism locks securely in place so the display stays exactly where you set it, even during active customer interaction. Use portrait orientation for POS checkout, visitor sign-in forms, and loyalty registration; switch to landscape for digital menus, product demos, and video displays.
- Document holder adjusts along the pole — place collateral exactly where it's needed – The height-adjustable literature holder slides along the pole so you can position brochures, pamphlets, or promotional materials at exactly the right height alongside the tablet. Whether you're running loyalty sign-ups, event check-in, or product demos, customers interact with digital and physical content at the same station. The literature holder is removable — slide it off the pole entirely if you need a clean kiosk-only setup.

Check how the phone will receive power, what the dashboard should do if power is interrupted, and whether the mount or enclosure allows heat to dissipate. A fixed installation may need a stand or mount; check that it fits the phone, gives the required viewing angle, leaves room for the charging connector, and does not block ventilation. Validate the setup in the expected operating environment before standardizing on a model.

| Decision area | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Access and enrollment | Whether the use is personal, staff-facing, or public; whether fully managed enrollment is needed; and whether the planned EMM supports the required lock-task policies. Android’s lock task documentation and dedicated-device overview describe the relevant platform capabilities. |
| Apps and controls | The exact apps users need and which system UI controls should remain available. Check that the management policy can allow the required app or app set. |
| Screen and content | Readability at the real viewing distance, visibility in ambient light, required orientation, touch needs, and how much content stays static. Do not treat peak brightness as proof of sustained-display suitability. |
| Updates and maintenance | Whether the phone can be enrolled in the intended EMM, supports the required policies, and receives updates on an acceptable schedule. Android’s dedicated-device guidance includes management features such as OTA update scheduling. |
| Power and installation | Charging method, behavior after power loss, charging-state monitoring, mounting and cable clearance, ventilation, and expected temperature. Android documents stay-awake and charging checks in its cookbook; Google’s Pixel temperature guidance describes potential heat-related effects. |

Test the exact setup before deploying a fleet
- Write down the job. Specify whether the device is public, staff-facing, or personal; list allowed apps, required controls, and whether interaction is needed.
- Confirm management before purchase. For an organization deployment, verify enrollment, lock-task behavior, and the necessary policies with the chosen EMM or vendor.
- Evaluate the screen in place. Run the actual dashboard in its intended orientation and check readability at the real viewing distance and ambient light. Note which elements remain static.
- Install the intended power and mount. Use the actual charger and mounting arrangement, with connector clearance and airflow, rather than testing the phone loose on a desk.
- Observe operation under expected conditions. Check that the screen stays on as required, the device remains powered, and the installation does not trigger heat-related charging or display behavior. The sources do not establish a universal safe temperature or guaranteed burn-in-free duration, so validate the conditions specific to your setup.
