Choose an AI subscription by matching its tools and usage limits to the work you actually do—not by assuming the highest price buys the best answer. Grok is the fit to investigate for xAI’s search, voice, and media features; Claude for its own work and coding tools; and Poe for switching among providers through a points budget. If you do not yet know which tools or limits matter to you, try the free options first.
Start with the job you need the subscription to do
Before comparing prices, identify the work you expect to do regularly and the feature that would make a service useful. A subscription may be a poor fit even if its headline price is low: the allowance may not suit your usage, or it may not include the tool or model you want.

- List your recurring tasks. Examples include researching current information, coding, drafting and revising longer projects, or generating images and video.
- Name any must-have tool or provider. Decide whether you need a particular assistant, search or media features, coding tools, or access to several model providers.
- Estimate how often you use it. Occasional use may fit a free tier. Frequent use makes the allowance, reset schedule, and what happens after you reach a limit more important.
- Compare the full billing terms. Check the price and billing interval shown at checkout in your region, applicable taxes, and whether the plan renews or is managed through an app platform.
There is no common price-per-message measure across these services. Grok describes a weekly allowance, Claude has session and weekly limits, and Poe uses compute points. Those systems are not directly interchangeable, so a listed price by itself cannot show which plan offers better value for your workload.
What the three subscription approaches offer
| Option | What the provider describes | Listed price and billing | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grok | xAI lists free access and paid tiers. SuperGrok includes higher limits, Grok Bot, connectors, Expert, and image and video generation. SuperGrok Plus adds 1080p video, significantly higher use across Chat, Imagine, Voice, and Build, priority access, and early access. xAI’s product materials also list real-time web and X search and voice features. | xAI’s pricing page accessed October 7, 2026, listed SuperGrok at $30 per month and SuperGrok Plus at $100 per month. Prices for the Lite and Heavy tiers were not stated in the captured comparison; check the live plan page or checkout rather than inferring them. | Confirm the features attached to the exact tier, its shared weekly allowance, and the current checkout price in your region. |
| Claude | Anthropic lists Pro features including more usage than Free, priority access during high traffic, early feature access, Claude Code, and longer multi-step tasks. The paid-plan materials also list Projects and other Claude features. | Anthropic’s pricing page accessed October 7, 2026, listed US Pro pricing at $20 monthly or $17 per month on annual billing, with $200 billed up front. Max was listed from $100 per month. Regional prices and applicable taxes can vary. | Check the current regional price, session and weekly limits, and whether you need separate API access. |
| Poe multi-model subscription | Poe describes one subscription for access to models from multiple providers, including Claude and other model families, using a points budget. | Poe’s page accessed October 7, 2026, displayed annual US-dollar prices from $49.99 per year ($4.17 monthly equivalent) to $2,499.99 per year ($208.33 monthly equivalent). Displayed point allowances ranged from 10,000 points per day to 8.25 million points per month. Taxes and currency conversion may change the checkout total. | Check the point cost of your preferred bots, when points are granted, rollover terms, sharing, and which platform manages the subscription. |
These figures describe the plans as listed on the providers’ pages accessed October 7, 2026; they are not guaranteed current checkout totals or comparable allowances. Confirm current terms before paying.
#1 Best Overall
When Grok may be the better starting point
Look at Grok if the xAI features listed for its plans match your recurring work—for example, real-time web or X search, voice, connectors, or image and video generation. The relevant question is not simply whether a feature appears somewhere in xAI’s product materials; confirm it is available on the tier you intend to buy.
xAI’s documentation says paid SuperGrok plans draw from one weekly allowance across products. Its FAQ says extra usage credits become available after included weekly use is exhausted and are priced at standard rates. If you regularly exceed the included allowance, compare the current cost of additional usage with the price and allowance of a higher tier.
Rank #2
When Claude may be the better starting point
Consider Claude if you want Claude’s own work and coding features, including Claude Code, longer multi-step tasks, or Projects. Pro is not unlimited: Anthropic says usage depends on factors such as message and conversation length, attachments, model, and feature. It describes five-hour session resets and weekly limits across models, so a long or intensive workflow may encounter limits even on a paid plan.
Keep subscription access distinct from API access. Anthropic’s Claude Help Center states that “The Pro plan does not include API usage through the Claude Console.” If you need to build software that calls the API, budget for and check the separate API terms rather than treating a Pro subscription as API credit.
Rank #3
When a multi-model plan may be the better starting point
Poe may suit you if switching among providers’ models from one service is more important than subscribing directly to just one provider. Its subscription uses compute points, and its listed point allotments can be daily, monthly, or both depending on the plan. The displayed point total alone does not tell you how many conversations or tasks it will cover: costs vary by bot, so inspect the point cost of the models and tasks you expect to use.
- Subscription compute points generally do not roll over, according to Poe’s FAQ.
- Poe says subscription members share points equally.
- Subscriptions are managed on the platform where they were purchased.
- Check the renewal schedule and point grant timing for the specific plan before committing to annual billing.
Use the free tiers to test your real workflow
xAI and Anthropic both describe free access. If you are unsure whether paid access is worthwhile, try your usual tasks on the free options before committing. Note which tools you need, how often you hit a limit, and whether the answer or workflow you want is available on the tier you are testing. Free-tier limits and feature availability may differ from paid plans, so verify what the paid tier adds rather than assuming it simply removes every restriction.

A practical decision
- Choose Grok as your first plan to investigate if xAI’s search, voice, connectors, or media features are central to your work and the tier’s weekly allowance fits your usage.
- Choose Claude as your first plan to investigate if Claude’s coding and work features fit your workflow and its session and weekly limits are workable for you.
- Choose Poe as your first plan to investigate if you specifically want to switch among providers and are comfortable tracking point costs and grant schedules.
- Stay on free access for now if you have not identified a recurring task, a needed paid feature, or a limit you regularly hit.
These are fit-based starting points, not rankings of model quality. The cited plan information does not establish that one provider gives better answers across tasks, and your workload determines whether its limits and tools are worth the cost.
