Choose a streaming service by checking whether it has the specific sci-fi shows and seasons you want in your country, then compare the plan features and cost that matter to your household. There is no supported universal winner: catalogs and availability vary by region, and a genre label alone does not guarantee a particular title is included.
Start with your must-watch shows and country
Write down three to five series you want to watch, including any particular seasons, and note your country. A service may carry a show in one territory but not another, and a catalog listing is a discovery aid rather than a promise that a title will remain available.

Check each title on the service’s official catalog for your country. Confirm the season you want, not just the series name. Netflix’s US sci-fi TV page lists examples including Stranger Things, Black Mirror, 3 Body Problem, Dark, Travelers, and The Umbrella Academy; that US listing does not establish availability elsewhere or guarantee that titles will stay. Netflix’s sci-fi TV collection is useful for discovery, but check the live catalog for your territory.
Apple also maintains an official sci-fi collection. Use it to find possibilities, then verify the specific title and season in your local storefront; the collection alone does not show that its catalog is exhaustive or superior to another service’s. Apple TV’s sci-fi collection.
Compare the plans only after checking availability
Once you have a shortlist of services with the shows you want, compare the current offer in your country. Plan names, prices, and features can change, so use each service’s official plan page rather than relying on old price lists or assumptions about what a service includes.
- Total cost: Compare monthly and annual options where offered, and account for any subscription or bundle you already pay for.
- Ads: Check whether the plan includes advertising and whether an ad-free option is available.
- Picture and sound: Consider resolution and HDR or audio support only if your display and sound setup can use them.
- Household use: Check simultaneous streams and download limits against how many people watch at once and whether you watch offline.
- Other interests: A service may be a better fit if its wider catalog also serves the rest of your household.
For example, Max’s US plan information distinguishes stream limits, resolution, and downloads by plan: Basic with Ads and Standard list two simultaneous streams and Full HD, while Premium lists four simultaneous streams and 4K where available, plus downloads. These are US plan details, not a comparison of sci-fi catalogs; confirm the current terms before subscribing. Max plan features.

Use franchises to narrow the shortlist, not to skip the catalog check
If one franchise is your main reason for subscribing, use it to identify services worth checking, then verify the exact title and season locally. A 2026 Space.com roundup points readers toward Paramount+ for Star Trek and Disney+ for Star Wars. Treat those as starting points, not guarantees of current availability in every country.

For viewers without one franchise priority, compare your whole must-watch list instead. The available catalog and plan evidence does not establish a complete, like-for-like ranking of major services, so a broad claim that one subscription is best for sci-fi would overstate what the listings show.
Quick Recap
Make the choice, then reassess
- List the shows and seasons you actually intend to watch, and identify your country.
- Check each service’s official local catalog for every title on that list.
- Remove services that do not carry enough of your priorities to justify their cost.
- Compare the remaining plans for price, ads, resolution, streams, and downloads that matter to your household.
- After finishing the shows that motivated the subscription, reassess whether the service still earns its place in your budget.
