Choose a Galaxy Tab that supports your remote-access app and your employer’s sign-in requirements, then match its screen and input accessories to the work you do. DeX can make Android apps easier to use in a desktop-style layout, but it does not turn a tablet into a Windows PC: the remote client, host computer, network, and workplace policies determine whether you can connect.
Know what the tablet will—and will not—do
There are two different workflows to consider. In DeX, Android apps run on the Galaxy Tab in a desktop-style interface. In a remote desktop session, an app on the tablet connects to another computer or an organization-managed remote resource; the remote computer runs the desktop environment you see. DeX may improve the local window, keyboard, and pointer experience, but the remote-access app controls the connection and how it handles input.

Samsung documents using DeX with a keyboard and mouse, including a Book Cover Keyboard touchpad. Microsoft’s Android client documentation describes connecting to remote PCs and administrator-published resources. That client guide is marked as previous-version documentation, so follow the current app’s instructions and your IT administrator’s deployment guidance for a work account. Before comparing tablets, confirm that the computer or managed service you need to reach is configured to accept a connection from an Android client. For Microsoft’s Windows 11 remote-host flow, the host must run Windows 11 Pro; the client device can use a different operating system. Work-managed environments may instead require an administrator-published resource and organization-specific setup.

- Host edition and access: Ask your administrator which Windows edition or remote service is available, and whether remote access is enabled for your account.
- App and authentication: Verify the required Android client, employer sign-in method, multifactor authentication, and any device-management requirements.
- Network: Confirm whether you need a VPN, gateway, or other approved network route, and whether your usual connection is dependable enough for your sessions.
- Lifecycle: Microsoft says Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025. Do not treat a Windows 10 host as a suitable new-work setup without checking its support and your organization’s plans. Microsoft’s Remote Desktop guidance covers Windows host requirements and the Windows 10 lifecycle notice.
These checks prevent a common mismatch: buying a tablet for a Windows remote session when the actual blocker is host configuration, authentication, or employer policy.
Compare Galaxy Tabs by the work setup you need
There is no evidence here to support a performance, battery-life, latency, or price ranking among individual Galaxy Tab models. Compare the exact models you are considering against the practical requirements below, and confirm app availability and your workplace’s configuration before buying.

Check DeX and monitor compatibility by exact model
Samsung’s current DeX FAQ lists the Tab S4, S5e, Active Pro, Active3, S6, S7, S8, S9, S10, S11 series, and A11+ among DeX-compatible families. It specifically says the Tab S9 FE/FE+, S10 FE/FE+, and S10 Lite do not support HDMI output or Wireless DeX. Those exclusions concern the stated display modes; they do not establish that every other DeX feature is the same across models.
Check Samsung’s current DeX compatibility FAQ for the exact model, region, and software before relying on a monitor connection. Older Samsung Developer documentation can help explain setup, but its older model list is not the current authority for compatibility. Choose an input setup for the length of your sessions
For sustained remote work, prioritize comfortable typing and pointer control. A touchscreen can handle occasional taps, but is less suited to frequent text entry or precise cursor work. Samsung documents Bluetooth, USB, and RF keyboard and mouse use with DeX.
Keyboard cover with touchpad
A compatible Samsung Book Cover Keyboard is the closest tablet-integrated option to a laptop-style setup. Samsung explains that connecting the cover lets you launch DeX from Quick Settings or use the keyboard shortcut, then control the tablet with its touchpad. Cover fit depends on tablet generation, so confirm the product is made for your exact Tab before purchasing. Samsung’s keyboard and mouse instructions include DeX controls such as Alt+Tab to switch running apps and Alt+F4 to close the current app.

Separate keyboard and mouse
A Bluetooth keyboard and mouse are a flexible alternative if you prefer separate peripherals or want a larger pointer surface. Samsung also documents USB and RF peripherals; check connection requirements for the particular tablet and accessories you plan to use.
External monitor
If your workflow needs a bigger display, verify that the exact Tab supports the monitor connection you intend to use. Samsung documents HDMI-adapter use for compatible devices, but its current FAQ excludes the named FE and Lite models from HDMI output and Wireless DeX. Do not buy a USB-C-to-HDMI adapter until you have confirmed support for your model and intended mode.

Set up the connection with the right instructions
For a DeX workspace, Samsung’s keyboard-cover guidance says to connect the keyboard, then launch DeX from Quick Settings or with the keyboard shortcut. For the remote session, use the current remote-access app and your organization’s setup instructions. Microsoft’s previous-version Android client guide describes fields and options such as PC name, domain name or IP address, an optional remote desktop gateway, screen orientation and resolution, and scancode input configuration. Treat those as guidance for that documented client version, not guaranteed current app labels or instructions for every managed deployment. If keyboard input behaves unexpectedly, check the current client’s input settings or ask IT about the supported configuration.
Make the purchase decision
- Write down the required remote client and access method. Confirm the app, authentication, host edition or managed service, and any workplace policy.
- Decide whether DeX or an external screen is necessary. If you only need the tablet display, prioritize the app and comfortable input; if you need a monitor, verify HDMI or Wireless DeX compatibility for the exact model.
- Compare screen and mobility trade-offs. Choose a display that suits your remote desktop tasks while accounting for carrying weight, connectivity, battery expectations, and budget.
- Match accessories to the specific generation. Confirm the Book Cover Keyboard’s fit and touchpad features, or choose separate peripherals and verify their connection method.
- Check the complete setup with your employer before relying on it. A tablet can be suitable as a client without replacing the host computer or removing the need for network access and approved configuration.
Samsung also documents Outlook use in DeX and on tablets, but that does not by itself establish compatibility for every remote desktop app or employer setup. Microsoft’s Outlook guidance for Samsung DeX and tablets applies to that app, not as a general guarantee for remote access.
