Confirm that the exact model and included dock both empty debris and wash mop pads: drying, water refilling and dock-tray cleaning are separate features, not automatic parts of every mop-washing dock.
Check what the dock does—and what it leaves to you
Robot-vacuum docks can combine several distinct jobs. A self-emptying dock transfers debris from the robot’s small onboard bin into a larger container or bag. A mop-washing dock cleans the pads, but that alone does not mean it dries them, refills the robot’s water tank or cleans its own washing tray.

Compare the exact robot and station included with it. Product families can have different docks, and configurations can vary by region or bundle. iRobot’s Roomba Plus 505 Combo with AutoWash dock is described as auto-emptying debris, refreshing mop pads during mopping, washing and heat-drying them, and running self-cleaning cycles. Those are iRobot’s product-page claims, not independent comparative test results.

- Dust: Does the dock empty the robot automatically? Is debris collected in a bag or bin, and what capacity does the manufacturer state?
- Mop pads: Does the station wash them, refresh them during a run, dry them, or perform some combination?
- Water: Does the dock refill the robot automatically? How are clean and dirty water stored and handled?
- Dock cleaning: Does it clean its washing tray, or will you need to access and wash that part yourself?
For example, Roborock lists self-washing, warm-air drying, automatic dust emptying and tank refilling on the Qrevo S5V Multifunctional Dock. Its listed functions are specific to that product; check the features of the model and station you are considering.
#1 Best Overall
- CLEAN FLOORS EVERY DAY—WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT IT. The Roomba Plus 415X vacuums and mops in one run, stopping crumbs, dust, and spills before they turn into stuck‑on messes. With 20,000 Pa and DualClean mop pads, your floors stay visibly clean from morning and night.
- NO MORE SCRUBBING DRIED‑ON MESSES. SmartScrub applies extra pressure exactly where messes are stubborn—breaking down dried food, muddy paw prints, and kitchen splatter, so you never have to scrub by hand again.
- REACHES THE PLACES DIRT USUALLY HIDES. A 46% slimmer design* fits under more furniture, while extending brushes pull debris from edges and corners—so dust doesn’t collect where traditional robots miss. *Compared to Roomba 105
- GREAT FOR HOMES WITH PETS. Tangle‑free rubber brushes capture pet fur without clogging, eliminating constant stops to cut hair off the brush.
- EVERY CLEAN STARTS WITH A FRESH MOP—NOT YESTERDAY’S DIRT. The AutoWash Dock washes and heat‑dries mop pads at 113°F after every run, preventing odors and buildup so floors aren’t cleaned with yesterday’s dirt.
Match mop care to the maintenance you want to avoid
Washing and drying are different steps. If the station washes pads but does not dry them, you still have a different routine from one that provides automatic drying. Check how the pads are accessed, how the washing tray is cleaned and whether the manufacturer identifies replacement pads or other consumables. ECOVACS advises replacing mop pads or cloths when worn; compatible parts and replacement timing depend on the model.
Also distinguish a dock’s listed functions from a promise that you will not need to maintain it. Tanks may need filling or emptying, trays may need cleaning, and pads or filters may need attention. The ECOVACS buying guide describes OMNI station examples with automatic emptying, hot-water mop washing, hot-air drying and dock self-cleaning, but specifications vary across models. Its guide gives 140°F washing and 104°F drying for the named N30 PRO OMNI example; those figures are not category-wide specifications.

Check carpet handling before buying for mixed floors
In a home with both hard floors and rugs or carpet, look closely at the robot’s carpet strategy. Check whether it lifts its mop, how much it lifts and what settings let you manage carpeted areas. A feature name such as “mop lift” does not, by itself, establish how well a particular robot protects every rug or carpet.

Strong suction lifts hair from floors, so pet owners can spend less time cleaning up after their furry friends.
- 【Vacuum, Mop, and Long Runtime】One device, two jobs. This robot vacuum and mop combo sweeps and mops, and as a robot vacuum and mop, it offers 3 water levels for tile, hardwood, or laminate. The robot vacuum and mop self emptying design reduces hands-on care, while up to 150 minutes of runtime covers about 1,615 sq ft per clean. Auto-recharge and resume keeps it going.
Evaluate navigation against your layout and clutter
Mapping, obstacle detection, no-go zones, multi-floor maps and threshold handling are model-specific. Prioritize the capabilities that match your home: for instance, mapping and no-go zones may matter if you need to keep the robot out of particular rooms, while obstacle detection is relevant if small items often remain on the floor.
Manufacturer feature lists can tell you what a model claims to support, but they do not establish real-world reliability. Check the exact model’s documented features and consider how your layout, thresholds and everyday clutter could affect its routes.

Make sure the station fits—and account for upkeep
A multifunction dock needs a practical location, not just room for the robot to park. Check the station’s overall footprint and the access needed to remove tanks, change a dust bag or clean the washing tray. Confirm how clean and dirty water are handled and which consumables are compatible with the specific model.
Automatic emptying reduces how often you handle debris, but the interval depends on the model and household conditions. iRobot states that the Roomba Plus 505 Combo can provide up to 75 days of auto-emptying and describes four weeks of mopping and pad washing. Roborock claims up to seven weeks without manual dust emptying for the Qrevo S5V and says the interval depends on user habits and environmental factors. These are manufacturer-stated service intervals, not guarantees for every household.
Use a model-by-model checklist, not a dock label
Before choosing, compare the exact robot-and-dock bundle against the jobs and constraints that matter in your home:
- Confirm that the included station both self-empties debris and washes the mop pads.
- Record separately whether it refreshes pads during cleaning, dries them, refills water and cleans its tray.
- Check dust-bag or bin type and capacity, tank handling, and compatible replacement supplies.
- For mixed floors, verify mop-lift behavior and available carpet settings.
- Match mapping, obstacle detection, no-go zones, floor maps and threshold handling to your layout.
- Check the station’s dimensions and access requirements against the space where you plan to place it.
- Verify the regional model variant, included dock and current availability before comparing prices.
Manufacturer pages are useful for confirming stated specifications, but the iRobot, Roborock and ECOVACS materials cited here do not provide an independent, controlled comparison of cleaning performance across brands. Choose based on the functions and fit you can verify for the exact configuration, rather than treating a manufacturer’s feature list or service interval as comparative proof.
