The best phone for your headphones depends first on how they connect. If you use analog wired headphones, look for a built-in 3.5 mm jack or confirm that a USB-C adapter with a DAC works with the phone. For Bluetooth, check that both the phone and headphones support the codec you want. No single phone is the best choice everywhere: availability, carrier support, warranty, and software updates vary by market.
Start with your headphone connection
Analog wired headphones
A phone with a built-in 3.5 mm headphone jack is the simplest option: plug in your headphones without using a dongle or occupying the charging port. ASUS lists a 3.5 mm jack and high-resolution audio output in its Hong Kong Zenfone 12 Ultra specifications. Treat it as an example to check in your own market, not a universally available recommendation.

If a phone has no jack, a USB-C-to-3.5 mm adapter may let you keep using analog headphones, but the adapter must be compatible. Samsung’s UK support guidance notes that the adapter may need a built-in DAC; a USB-C port by itself does not guarantee that a passive adapter will work. See Samsung’s DAC adapter guidance.
USB-C headphones
USB-C headphones avoid the analog adapter, but compatibility can depend on the specific phone and headset. JBL’s Tune 520C compatibility chart is an example of a manufacturer checking compatibility by device. Before buying, consult the headphone maker’s compatibility information for your exact phone model.

Bluetooth headphones
For Bluetooth audio, the phone and headphones need to share support for the codec you want to use. ASUS’s Zenfone 9 specifications, for example, list LDAC and aptX variants. Sony’s Xperia audio overview describes wired and wireless audio features across the Xperia line. These sources help identify features, but codec labels alone do not establish which phone sounds best: that would require comparable listening tests.

Check more than the connector
A connection that fits is only the first requirement. Work through these checks before choosing:
- Compatibility: For an adapter, confirm DAC support and compatibility with the exact phone. For Bluetooth, check codec support on both devices. For USB-C headphones, check the headphone manufacturer’s device chart.
- Headphone demand: If your wired headphones are difficult to drive, look for reliable output information and consider whether you need a separate portable DAC/amp. The cited specifications do not provide comparable output-power measurements across these phone examples, so they cannot establish that any one will drive every headphone well.
- Whole-phone fit: Compare price, size, battery life, camera, performance, carrier bands, warranty, and software-support commitments in your country.
- Everyday practicality: A jack avoids an extra adapter. A dongle or external DAC adds something to carry and may use the charging port.
Make the choice for your market
“Best everywhere” is not a dependable single purchase answer when phone availability and support differ by region. The Zenfone 12 Ultra evidence here is specifically from ASUS Hong Kong, while the Samsung adapter advice is from Samsung UK. Check local listings and support terms, then confirm the precise model’s headphone jack, Bluetooth codecs, and adapter compatibility before buying. The available sources describe features and compatibility; they do not provide hands-on, controlled listening comparisons that justify ranking these phones by sound quality.
