Choose a Googlebook by matching the exact model and configuration to your workload—not by assuming every device has the same specs. Google describes Googlebook as a new premium laptop category associated with Googlebook OS, which brings together ChromeOS and the Android tech stack. It is not another name for Chromebook Plus. The first Googlebook wave includes devices from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, but the detailed specifications currently available here are for one configuration: the Acer Googlebook 14.
What makes a Googlebook different from a Chromebook Plus?
Google calls Googlebook a new premium laptop category and a new operating-system direction. Googlebook OS combines ChromeOS with the Android tech stack. Chromebook Plus, by contrast, is an existing Chromebook category with defined hardware criteria. Those criteria are not Googlebook requirements: Google has not published a universal minimum specification for Googlebooks.

Google’s first-wave announcement names Intel Core Ultra 5 and Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor families. It also names Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo as device makers. Those broad details do not establish the configuration, performance, or features of every model. Compare the specific model and SKU before buying.

Match the processor and memory to your work
Start with what you actually do. For browser tabs, documents, video calls, and basic entertainment, compare available configurations and prices rather than assuming you need the most expensive processor. For heavier multitasking, creative work, or other compute-intensive tasks, pay closer attention to the processor and RAM.

Google Store lists the Acer Googlebook 14 configuration with an Intel Core Ultra 5 325 processor, 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and an NPU rated at up to 47 TOPS. These are published specifications, not independent performance measurements or a ranking against other Googlebooks. The available information does not establish how every Googlebook configuration performs in real workloads.
Choose enough local storage for offline use
Compare SSD capacity with the files, installed apps, and media you expect to keep on the laptop. The listed Acer Googlebook 14 has a 512 GB PCIe Gen 4 SSD. That is a specification for this configuration, not a category-wide standard. Cloud storage can help, but it does not replace local capacity for people who keep large files on-device or need them offline.
Compare the screen for the way you work
Screen size and aspect ratio affect workspace and portability; panel type, resolution, and brightness affect how content looks and how usable the display is in different rooms. Touch, stylus support, and refresh rate matter only if your work or preferences make use of them.

Google Store lists the Acer Googlebook 14 with a 14-inch, 16:10 OLED touchscreen at 2880 × 1800 resolution, rated at 500 nits with a refresh rate up to 120 Hz. It supports multi-touch and USI 2.0 stylus input. These are manufacturer-published specifications; no independent display testing is established here. Check the precise model for its panel and features rather than assuming this screen applies across the Googlebook line.
Balance portability with convertible flexibility
A convertible can serve as both a laptop and a touch-first device, but hinge design is only useful if you will use it. Compare dimensions and weight alongside the screen size, keyboard, and form factor. The Acer example is a convertible measuring 12.28 × 8.78 × 0.5 inches and weighing 2.51 lb, according to its Google Store listing. Other models may differ.
Read battery estimates carefully and check charging
The Acer listing specifies a 71 Wh battery and claims up to 16 hours of battery life. “Up to” is a manufacturer estimate, not a guaranteed everyday result or an independent test. Google cautions that battery life varies significantly with network conditions, location, settings, and usage. When independent tests become available, compare results from similar conditions rather than treating a headline estimate as a direct comparison.

The Acer listing also specifies 100 W USB-C charging. Check the exact model’s charging support and included adapter, as well as whether its USB-C ports meet your charging and display needs.
Check ports and wireless against your peripherals
List the devices you expect to connect—such as an external monitor, storage, headphones, or other accessories—and confirm the exact model has the ports and wireless standards you need. The Acer configuration lists Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0, plus USB-C ports with DisplayPort and charging support. These are Acer-model details, not guarantees for all Googlebooks.
Consider webcam, microphones, and security features
For frequent calls, check webcam resolution, microphone configuration, and whether the camera has a physical shutter. Also compare the security features that matter to you. The Acer listing specifies a 5-megapixel webcam with a physical shutter, triple microphones, a fingerprint reader, and a Google Titan C2 security module. Confirm those features on the individual model you are considering.

Confirm that your apps and workflows will work
Google says Googlebook apps are available through Google Play, naming Adobe Premiere, Adobe Photoshop, BandLab, and Netflix. It also says Microsoft 365 files can be opened, edited, downloaded, and saved using the Microsoft 365 app. This is not a guarantee that every desktop program, app feature, accessory, or workflow will work as it does on another computer.
Before buying, verify the specific app version and features you need, regional availability, and any subscription requirement. If your work depends on specialist software or peripherals, check compatibility with the provider or manufacturer rather than relying on the platform name alone.

Google’s current ChromeOS automatic update policy provides ten years of updates for ChromeOS devices, with the applicable support date listed by model. Google says the existing Chromebook update commitment remains in place as Googlebook is introduced. If you are considering an older Chromebook instead, check its exact model and support date; the Chromebook or Chromebook Plus label alone does not tell you how much support remains.
Google’s administrator guidance, last updated September 23, 2026, says many newer Chromebook devices may be eligible to transition to Googlebook OS, with device eligibility details to come. It does not provide a complete model list or a consumer migration schedule. Do not buy or keep a device on the assumption that a particular Chromebook will migrate.
Compare price only after checking the configuration
Google Store listed the Acer Googlebook 14 configuration at $899 in the US when accessed October 4, 2026. That price is specific to that listing and may change; it is not a category price or a comparison across the first-wave makers. Compare regional prices for the exact SKUs, and factor in the specifications and support information that matter to your use.
