Choose a foldable by judging the outer screen you will use every day, the inner screen’s size and shape, the cameras you need, independently tested battery life, and the exact model’s care and repair terms. A large display or high megapixel count can narrow the field, but neither proves comfort, photo quality, or long-term durability.
Start with how you will use the two screens
A foldable is both a phone you use while closed and a larger display you open when needed. If you expect to handle messages, calls, maps, and quick tasks mostly on the cover screen, assess that screen as carefully as the inner one. Its diagonal measurement alone does not tell you whether the phone feels comfortable to hold or type on.

Compare the inner display’s diagonal, aspect ratio, resolution, refresh rate, and brightness. A bigger diagonal may be useful for reading or multitasking, but dimensions and proportions affect how content fits. If possible, handle the device and type on both screens before buying.

Example: Pixel 10 Pro Fold
Google lists an 8-inch inner display and a 6.4-inch outer display for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Those are manufacturer specifications, not a measure of how comfortable either screen will feel in your hand. Google’s specifications and product announcement give the model’s details.

Choose cameras by lens coverage, then check actual results
Look at the available rear lenses: main, ultrawide, and telephoto. Think about whether you often photograph distant subjects, groups, or close details, and compare independent photo and video evaluations for the exact models you are considering. A megapixel figure describes resolution, not overall image quality.
For example, Google lists a 48MP wide, 10.5MP ultrawide, and 10.8MP 5x telephoto rear camera system on the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Samsung emphasized the Galaxy Z Fold7’s 200MP main camera. These manufacturer specifications do not establish which phone takes better pictures. Google’s camera specifications and Samsung’s announcement describe their respective devices.
Compare battery tests, not just battery capacity
Battery capacity, usually shown in mAh, is not the same as runtime. Compare results from the same testing outlet and method when available, and treat them as controlled-test comparisons rather than a prediction of your own day. Screen use, settings, connectivity, and other habits affect real-world runtime.

Motorola lists a 6,000mAh battery for the Razr Fold (2026). In its 2026 foldable roundup, Tom’s Guide reported 14 hours 44 minutes for the Razr Fold and 16 hours 20 minutes for the different Razr Ultra 2026 in the outlet’s battery test. These are Tom’s Guide test results, not promised daily runtimes; the Razr Ultra figure is not the Razr Fold result. See Motorola’s product specifications and Tom’s Guide’s 2026 foldable roundup.
Read durability claims narrowly and follow care guidance
Check the full ingress rating and the manufacturer’s care instructions for the exact model. Ratings describe performance under specified test conditions; they do not guarantee protection from every exposure, damage, or normal wear. Samsung says water resistance may diminish with normal wear. Its UK guide describes IPX8 protection for Galaxy Z devices as freshwater immersion up to 1.5m for 30 minutes; that description should not be applied to every foldable. Samsung’s UK foldable-screen guide provides that guidance.
Google specifies IP68 dust and water resistance for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Motorola’s Razr Fold hardware guidance warns that dust may reduce hinge life or damage the display. These are product-specific specifications and cautions, not evidence that one model will outlast another in everyday use. Google’s specifications and Motorola’s hardware guidance state the relevant details.

- Do not treat a fold-cycle figure or a materials description as a guaranteed service life unless the manufacturer clearly defines it that way.
There is no comparable current-model, real-world failure-rate ranking established for these examples. Consumer Reports says its smartphone ratings draw on its 2023, 2024, and 2025 Summer Surveys of phones purchased from 2019 through 2025, with a sample of 186,933 smartphones; the reviewed page does not provide a current foldable-specific failure rate. Consumer Reports’ review and methodology note explains the survey scope.
Check the ownership terms for your country
Before buying, verify warranty coverage, accidental-damage options, local repair access, and the cost of replacing the inner screen for the exact model and country. These terms can materially affect the cost of owning a foldable, and the cited product pages do not establish a comparable current repair-cost or protection-plan price across brands and regions. Confirm local terms directly rather than assuming that coverage transfers between markets.
