To change the default card on iPhone, open Wallet, touch and hold the card you want, then drag it in front of your other payment cards. To manage Apple Pay notifications, use the iPhone’s Wallet & Apple Pay settings for general alerts, or open a specific card in Wallet and adjust its notification controls.
How do I change my default card on Apple Pay?
On iPhone

Open the Wallet app.

Apple says the first payment card you add to Wallet becomes the default for that iPhone. Reordering cards changes the persistent default on that device. See Apple’s instructions for changing the default card.

On Apple Watch, Mac, iPad, or Vision Pro
The steps differ by device. Apple documents separate procedures, so do not assume changing the default on an iPhone automatically changes it on your other devices. Menu labels can vary by operating-system version.

Apple Watch: On the paired iPhone, open the Apple Watch app and go to My Watch > Wallet & Apple Pay > Default Card. Select the card you want.

Mac with Touch ID: Open System Settings (or System Preferences on older macOS versions), choose Wallet & Apple Pay, then select a card.

How is the default card different from choosing a card for one payment?
The default card is the one Apple Pay presents first for in-store payments. You can still select a different card at checkout: tap the cards shown at the bottom of the payment screen, choose another card, then authenticate. That choice applies to that payment; it does not replace the device’s persistent default. See Apple’s contactless payment instructions.
How do I turn off Apple Pay notifications?
Change general Wallet notifications on iPhone
Open Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay and tap Notifications to change notification settings. Apple describes this control as “Notifications: Change notification settings” in its iPhone Wallet & Apple Pay settings guide.

Change alerts and history for one card
To adjust transaction history and notifications for a particular card, open Wallet, select the card, tap More, then tap Notifications. Apple’s card-level control can turn transaction history and notifications on or off. The transaction features available can differ by issuer, so a control or history view may not appear for every card. See Apple’s guide to viewing Apple Pay transaction history.
Why might an Apple Pay alert show an unexpected amount?
A recent Wallet transaction can display an authorization amount rather than the final charge. Apple uses a gas-station payment as an example: the authorization may differ from the amount ultimately charged. Check your card issuer’s statement for the final charge and Apple Pay transactions; see Apple’s explanation of Apple Pay transaction amounts.

What if a card or setting is missing?
Apple Pay is not available in every country or region, and card eligibility depends on participating issuers. If you cannot add a card or do not see a setting described here, check Apple Pay availability in your country or region and ask your card issuer whether it supports the card and feature. Apple’s interface can also change with operating-system updates.
