Check exact tool, battery and charger compatibility; compare the available tools and battery sizes; then account for the packs, chargers, service and warranty terms you will need. A platform is a bounded ecosystem, not a promise that same-voltage batteries from different brands will fit.
Start with the tools you expect to use
Write down the tools you need now and those you are likely to add: for example, a drill, saw, grinder, outdoor tool or specialist equipment. Compare that list against each platform’s current local range. A large ecosystem matters only if it includes useful tools for your work.

Also check whether a platform offers different voltage classes for different jobs. Bosch Professional presents 12V and 18V systems; Metabo lists 18V and 36V systems. These are examples of each manufacturer’s ranges, not a cross-brand compatibility standard.

Voltage alone does not establish compatibility. Before buying, confirm that the exact battery works with the tool and that the charger supports that battery. Check the manufacturer’s current documentation for the specific models and region, especially when mixing generations or buying from an alliance partner.

Bosch Professional 18V and AMPShare
Bosch Professional says its 18V batteries and chargers work with new and existing tools in its Professional 18V system, a policy it says has applied since 2008. Bosch Tools describes AMPShare as extending compatibility to Bosch 18V tools and 18V cordless products that are part of the alliance. Its page names FEIN, Rothenberger and Wagner among participating brands. Membership does not mean every product made by each member is compatible: verify the exact tool and pack. Bosch Tools labels its AMPShare page “POWER 150+ TOOLS.” That is Bosch’s promotional portfolio count, not an independent audit or a measure of tool quality. The page carries a 2024 copyright notice, so check the current local listing for availability.

Metabo and CAS
Metabo says its battery generations since 2009 fit its cordless machines within the same voltage class, and that chargers charge packs in the same size. It lists separate 18V and 36V systems and describes compatibility with CAS partner systems. Confirm the exact pack, charger and tool rather than treating those claims as universal across voltage classes. Metabo battery technology.

Battery choice affects more than how long a tool can run. Pack size and weight matter when working overhead, carrying tools between locations or using a tool for extended periods; output and runtime matter for demanding or sustained work. Bosch describes options from compact designs to packs emphasizing runtime and power, while AMPShare describes compact, lightweight options.

These manufacturer descriptions do not provide neutral, cross-brand tests. Compare the capacities, dimensions and weights stated for the exact packs you are considering, and choose according to the job rather than assuming that the largest battery is always the best fit.
Calculate the cost of the system, not just the tool
Compare the contents of each kit: a bundled tool may include batteries and a charger, while a bare tool may be sensible if you already own compatible equipment. For each likely future purchase, consider whether you will need another pack or charger. Sharing batteries can avoid duplicate purchases, but the material available here does not establish current prices or a cheapest platform.

If entering a documented system such as Bosch Professional 18V, check that the battery and charger listing matches the exact tool model and your region. Kit contents and listings can vary; verify what is included before buying.

Warranty handling and third-party battery policies are manufacturer-specific. Bosch says AMPShare service and warranty depend on the company shown on the tool’s type plate or brand label, and advises contacting that member’s service team. Metabo recommends its own or CAS partner batteries and chargers; it warns that other third-party systems may create fire or explosion risks and may affect warranty or guarantee claims related to its products. Check the applicable local terms rather than assuming one brand’s policy applies to another.

A practical platform-selection checklist
- List the work: identify the tools you need today and are likely to add.
- Check the range: confirm those exact tool types are available in the platform and your region.
- Verify fit: check compatibility for each tool, battery and charger, including alliance products and generations.
- Choose suitable packs: weigh runtime and output against pack size and weight for the way you work.
- Count the system cost: include batteries, chargers and likely future additions, not just the bare tool.
- Read local terms: confirm who handles service and warranty and what the manufacturer says about third-party packs.
There is no evidence here to rank every brand on price, runtime, durability or performance. The useful choice depends on your tool list, exact compatibility needs and local terms.
