Open Settings > General > About, then find Carrier. The carrier settings version number appears beside that label. Tap the number to reveal additional carrier information.
Where to find the carrier settings version on an iPhone
The installed carrier settings version is shown in the iPhone’s About screen. You do not need a computer, a separate app or an accessory to view it.

What you should see on the About screen
The Carrier entry
The value next to Carrier is the installed carrier settings version. Record it exactly if your carrier’s support team asks for it, including any punctuation or decimal points shown on your iPhone.

Different grouping on different screens
Apple’s support instructions do not describe the field with identical grouping language in every context. One troubleshooting view places the carrier information under eSIM. If your About page is arranged differently, do not search for a separate menu called “Carrier Settings.” Look for the visible Carrier label and read the number beside it.
Additional information after tapping
Tapping the version number can reveal more carrier information. This is useful when a carrier representative needs details beyond the version displayed in the main About list.
Carrier settings version versus iOS version
The carrier settings version and the iOS software version are separate entries in About. The iOS version identifies the operating-system release; the Carrier entry identifies the carrier settings version. Checking one does not tell you the value of the other.
| What you are checking | Where it appears | What to read |
|---|---|---|
| Carrier settings | Settings > General > About, beside Carrier | The carrier settings version number; tap it for additional carrier information |
| iOS software | Settings > General > About, as a separate entry | The iOS software version |
If a support agent asks for the carrier settings version, provide the value beside Carrier, not the iOS version shown elsewhere on the same page.

How to check whether an update is available
Viewing the number tells you what is installed. It does not, by itself, prove that the version is the latest one available for your line. To check for an update, use the same About screen:
- Open Settings.
- Choose General, then About.
- Wait briefly on the About screen. If a carrier settings update is available, the iPhone presents an update option.
- Read the prompt and follow its onscreen instructions.
Apple says carrier settings updates can improve cellular connectivity and performance. They may also add support for carrier features such as 5G or Wi‑Fi Calling. The prompt and available options are determined by the carrier and the iPhone, so follow what appears on your screen rather than looking for a fixed button or a universal version number.
What it means when no update prompt appears
An absent prompt is not confirmation that your installed settings are current. Apple directs users to contact their carrier to verify whether the latest carrier settings are installed.

This distinction matters when you are troubleshooting service. You can report the displayed Carrier version to the carrier and ask whether it is the current version for your account and device. The carrier can also tell you whether a settings download is required.

When a new SIM or eSIM changes the situation
A new physical SIM or eSIM may require carrier settings for the new carrier to be downloaded. If you recently changed carriers, transferred a number, replaced a SIM, or added an eSIM, check Settings > General > About again and watch for an update option.
The About page may still show the Carrier field even when the interface groups related details under eSIM. Use the carrier label and the version beside it as your reference. If the expected settings do not appear or service remains unavailable, contact the new carrier and ask it to verify the settings associated with the SIM or eSIM.
How to use the version during troubleshooting
Give support the exact value
When contacting your carrier, open the About screen while you have the iPhone in hand. Read the number beside Carrier exactly as displayed, then tap it if the representative requests additional carrier information. This avoids confusing a carrier settings value with the iOS software version.

After installing a new SIM or eSIM, revisit About and check for an update option. A carrier may need to provide new settings for the new network. If no prompt appears, ask the carrier to verify the installed version rather than assuming the existing value is current.

Use the check when features are missing
If your carrier says your plan or device should support a cellular feature such as 5G or Wi‑Fi Calling, the carrier settings update mechanism is one place to check. Open About and follow any update instructions shown there. Apple identifies those features as examples of support that carrier settings updates may add; availability still depends on the carrier and your service.
Check the version before and after support changes
If a carrier asks you to install an update, note the current Carrier value before following the onscreen instructions. After the process completes, return to About and read the displayed value again. This gives you a record of what the iPhone reports before and after the carrier-directed change without treating the number alone as proof that service has been fixed.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to do if you cannot find “Carrier”
- Confirm the path: you must be in Settings > General > About, not the main General page or the Cellular settings page.
- Scroll through the complete About list: the Carrier entry may not be at the top of the page.
- Look for the label, not a particular position: Apple’s documentation uses slightly different grouping descriptions, including a view under eSIM. The placement can therefore vary with the information shown on the device.
- Ask the carrier if the value is still unavailable: the carrier can verify the settings associated with your SIM or eSIM and tell you whether an update is needed.
Do not substitute the iOS software version for the missing Carrier value. They are distinct About-screen entries.
Viewing the installed version and verifying the latest version are different tasks
| Task | Action | Result |
|---|---|---|
| View what is installed | Open Settings > General > About and read the number beside Carrier | You see the carrier settings version currently displayed by the iPhone |
| See whether an update is offered | Remain on the About screen and follow any update prompt | The iPhone presents the carrier-provided update flow when one is available |
| Verify that the version is current | Contact your carrier | The carrier confirms whether the latest settings for your account and device are installed |
The third step cannot be replaced by simply comparing the number with another iPhone. Carrier settings are tied to the carrier context, and Apple’s guidance is to ask the carrier when you need confirmation of currentness.

Practical examples
You only need the number
Open About, locate Carrier, and read the value beside it. If a support form asks for the carrier settings version, enter that value rather than the iOS version.
You see an update option
Stay on the About screen, review the prompt, and follow the displayed instructions. Carrier settings updates can improve connectivity or performance and may add support for features such as 5G or Wi‑Fi Calling.
You see no prompt after changing SIMs
Read the Carrier value and contact the new carrier to verify whether its latest settings are installed. Apple specifically notes that a new SIM or eSIM may require settings for the new carrier.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →You are comparing the number with an older record
Use the current About value as the device’s present display, but do not conclude that it is the newest release solely because no prompt appears. Ask the carrier to confirm.
iPhone scope and iPad references
The steps in this guide are for an iPhone. Apple also documents carrier-settings procedures for iPad in some support material, but menu contents and cellular hardware can differ. On an iPhone, use the About screen and the visible Carrier label as the authoritative place to read the carrier settings version.
Quick Recap
Quick check
- Path: Settings > General > About.
- Field: Carrier.
- Action: read the version beside Carrier; tap it for additional carrier information.
- Update: follow an update option if the About screen presents one.
- Verification: contact the carrier to confirm that the installed settings are the latest.
- After a SIM or eSIM change: check again because the new carrier may require a settings download.
