To see how much time you spend in each app on an iPhone, open Settings > Screen Time > App & Website Activity, then tap See All App & Website Activity. From there you can switch between Day and Week views and see which apps, categories, pickups and notifications dominate your use. The report is accurate for what Screen Time records, but it is not a battery diagnostic, and it only covers the devices you choose to include.
Turn on App & Website Activity
Screen Time does not produce a report until activity tracking is switched on. Set it up once on the iPhone you want to inspect:

- Open Settings and tap Screen Time.
- Tap App & Website Activity and turn it on.
- Return to the Screen Time screen and tap See All App & Website Activity to open the full report.
Apple’s Screen Time setup guide describes this as the starting point for app and website usage. Data begins to appear from the point tracking is enabled, so a brand-new setup will show only a short history.
Read the daily and weekly report
The report is designed to answer two different questions, so it helps to pick the view before you read the numbers.

- AS SEEN ON SHARK TANK - Featured on national television for our innovative approach to helping people take back control of their screen time.
- DESIGNED FOR EVERY SITUATION - Perfect for students studying for exams, professionals needing deep work sessions, parents managing their children's device usage, or anyone tired of doomscrolling and losing hours to social media.
Day view: what happened on a specific day
Use the Day view when you want to know why a particular day felt different, such as a day with an unusually long gaming session or a day you were away from your usual routine. You can swipe through the summary history to move between days.
Week view: the broader pattern
Use the Week view to see whether a habit is consistent. A single heavy day tells you little; a week that repeats the same app at the top of the list tells you more. Look at the apps that show up week after week rather than the one that surprised you on a single afternoon.
What the report contains
Beyond time per app and category, Screen Time summarizes two additional signals:
- Pickups: how often the phone was picked up, which is useful for spotting checking habits that short sessions can hide.
- Notifications: how many notifications arrived, which helps explain why certain apps keep pulling your attention.
Check which device the report covers
If you own more than one Apple device, the totals can change depending on scope before you interpret anything. Screen Time settings and reports can sync across devices signed in to the same Apple Account when Share Across Devices is enabled. In the report, the Devices control lets you choose which device to inspect.

Apple’s support material states the combined view directly: “You can also see your combined Screen Time activity across devices.” (Apple Support, Get started with Screen Time on iPhone.) That means two readers can look at the same Apple Account and see different numbers simply because one is viewing a single iPhone and the other is viewing combined activity. Before comparing your totals with a friend’s, a partner’s or your own past reports, confirm which device or combined scope is selected.
Understand app categories
Screen Time sorts activity into categories automatically, such as Entertainment and Creativity. Treat these as a convenient grouping rather than a precise label. Apple notes that activity which does not fit a category may appear grey in the report, so a category total will not always account for every minute you spent on the phone. When a category total looks wrong, open the individual apps listed underneath it and read those figures instead.
Compare reports fairly
Comparisons only work when the inputs match. Keep these three things constant:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

| Setting | What to match | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Report period | Same Day or same Week | A Day view and a Week view measure different spans of time and are not directly comparable. |
| Device scope | Same selected device, or combined activity | Switching between one device and shared activity changes the totals. |
| Question | Screen time, pickups or notifications | Each measures a different behavior, so one does not stand in for another. |
Also avoid reading the report as proof that tracking itself will change your habits, or as evidence that a particular app is harmful. The report shows what you did; what it means is a separate judgment.

Battery use is a different question
If your concern is battery drain, do not use Screen Time duration as a stand-in. Open Settings > Battery instead. Apple’s battery documentation describes a view showing battery consumed by apps along with on-screen and background activity for each app. An app can use little screen time and still drain battery through background work, and a heavily used app can be efficient. The two reports answer different questions.
Act on what you find
Once you know which apps take the most time, you can change availability. Screen Time offers two tools for this:
- App Limits: set a daily time allowance for an app or category. Apple’s schedule documentation says limits can be ignored by default unless you configure blocking, so check the limit’s settings if you want it to stop you rather than only remind you.
- Downtime: schedule a period during which the phone is limited to the apps you allow, which suits sleep or focus hours.
Make changes after you have reviewed a pattern across several days or weeks, not after a single day, so that the limit addresses a habit rather than a one-off.
If the numbers do not match what you expect
- The menu path looks different: Apple changes labels between iOS versions. Look for Screen Time and App & Website Activity; the names may be arranged differently on other versions.
- An app is missing or shows less time than expected: check the Devices selection and whether Share Across Devices is on, since the view may be limited to one device.
- A category total does not add up: review the apps inside the category, and look for grey entries that do not fit a category.
- Battery is draining but Screen Time is low: that is expected for background activity. Use Settings > Battery to check on-screen and background use per app.
Sources
This guide follows Apple’s support documentation: Get started with Screen Time on iPhone for setup, report views, device selection, categories and shared activity; Set schedules with Screen Time on iPhone for Downtime and app limits; and Understand your iPhone battery usage and health for the battery view. These pages describe Apple’s own measurement and interface, not an independent audit of its accuracy, so treat the report as a clear record of what Screen Time tracks rather than a complete log of every kind of device activity.
The Bottom Line
Start with one week in the Week view, confirm the device scope, and then decide whether any app is worth a limit. Use Settings > Battery only when the question is battery life.
