To check installed updates in Windows 11, open Start > Settings > Windows Update > Update history. The current Settings section is called “Windows Update”; “Update & Security” is the older Windows 10 label. Microsoft says Update history shows which updates were installed and when.

Where do I find Windows Update history in Windows 11?

  1. Open Start, then select Settings.
  2. Select Windows Update in Settings.
  3. Select Update history.

The page lists updates that were installed and when they were installed. Microsoft documents this route in its Windows Update FAQ. If you followed instructions that say “Update & Security,” note that Windows 11 uses “Windows Update” for this section.

What does Update history tell you?

Use the entries to see whether an update was installed recently, for example when checking whether a problem began around the same time. A matching date can help you decide what to investigate, but it does not prove the update caused the problem. Update history is an installed-update record, not a complete diagnostic log or a guarantee of every failure detail.

What should I do if a problem started after an update?

Start with the Windows Update troubleshooter

Microsoft recommends starting with the automated Windows Update troubleshooter in the Get Help app. You can also find troubleshooters in Settings at System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters. Follow the Windows Update troubleshooter prompts, then consult Microsoft’s Windows Update troubleshooting guidance for the issue you are seeing.

Back up before making system changes

Checking history is read-only and does not require a backup. If you move on to troubleshooting that changes your system, Microsoft advises backing up personal files first; a USB drive is one possible backup option.

Can I uninstall an update from Update history?

Update history includes a Related settings link to Uninstall updates. Not every update can be removed, and Microsoft cautions readers to understand the risks before uninstalling a security update. Its Windows 11 guidance says to try reinstalling the version first. Review Microsoft’s instructions for uninstalling a Windows Update before proceeding. If a recent update appears related to a serious problem, Microsoft’s Windows recovery options explain other recovery approaches.
