How to Check Which Kirin Chip Is in Your Huawei Phone

Use your Huawei phone’s full model number—not just its family name—to confirm the Kirin chip in official specifications.

Find your phone’s full model number in Settings > System > About phone, then match that exact model and regional variant to Huawei’s official specifications. The model number identifies the device; it does not, by itself, tell you which Kirin chip is inside.

Find your Huawei phone’s full model number

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Tap System > About phone, then record the Model number. Menu wording and layout can vary; on some phones, the model number appears under About phone without the intermediate System menu. Huawei says this page contains model and hardware information, but its instructions do not guarantee that every phone displays the Kirin chip name there. See Huawei’s instructions for viewing device information and its guide to finding a product model number.

  3. If you cannot access Settings, check the label on the phone’s product box, if you still have it. Huawei also describes a nameplate inside the back of certain older phones with removable covers. Do not open a sealed phone to look for it.

Match the model number to the chipset

Search Huawei’s official support or product-specification pages for the complete model number, including any regional variant information. Confirm that the page matches your phone and check its listed chipset. Huawei’s Mate 20 specifications, for example, list the HUAWEI Kirin 980.

If you find specifications for a similar model but cannot confirm they apply to your regional variant, ask Huawei support to check the full model number rather than inferring the chip. Huawei’s model-number guidance is a starting point for identifying the device.

Why the phone’s family name may not be enough

Huawei’s announcements can establish the chipset for the models they name, but a family name alone is not a reliable lookup for every individual phone or regional variant. For example, Huawei identified the Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, and Porsche Design Mate 10 as using Kirin 970 in its 2017 Mate 10 announcement. Its 2018 Mate 20 Series announcement identifies Kirin 980, which is also listed on the Mate 20 specifications page. These examples do not establish a complete model-and-region catalogue.

When a hardware-info app may help

A third-party hardware-info app can be an optional cross-check, but app output is not a substitute for the official specification for your exact model. If an app and Huawei’s model-specific information disagree, confirm the model number and regional variant with Huawei support.
