A Sky Q “no satellite signal” message does not by itself show that the dish needs realignment or replacement. First distinguish a satellite reception error from a TV input message, then check the accessible cable connections at the box. If the problem persists, a qualified diagnosis is needed: the same symptoms can have several causes, and the available guidance does not establish a reliable homeowner test for choosing between realignment and replacement.
Identify the message on screen
Sky groups screen problems into different categories: “no satellite signal,” “no signal” or “no input,” and a broken or distorted picture. These are not interchangeable. In particular, a TV’s “no signal” or “no input” message is not evidence that the satellite dish is misaligned. Compare what you see with Sky’s screen-message guide.

Checks you can make without touching the dish
Check the box-end cables
If the message specifically says “no satellite signal,” check the dish cables where they enter the back of the Sky Q box. Make sure each accessible connector is seated and finger tight; do not force it. Sky Community contributors recommend this check, and one user reported that securing a loose coax connection resolved channel problems. That is an individual report, not a guaranteed fix or a test of dish alignment.

Consider whether heavy rain is temporary
If reception failed during very heavy rain, see whether it returns as conditions ease. Sky Community contributors mention heavy rain as a possible temporary factor. This observation cannot establish that the dish or any component is faulty.

Why symptoms cannot tell you whether to realign or replace the dish
Community troubleshooting discussions mention several possible causes of satellite reception problems: a dish that has moved out of alignment, a failing LNB, water in cabling, or very heavy rain. These are reported possibilities, not official diagnoses, and a “no satellite signal” message does not distinguish among them.
The available guidance establishes no reliable visual check, signal threshold, or symptom-based rule for deciding that a dish needs realignment rather than replacement—or that the LNB or cabling needs replacing. A glance from the ground cannot settle the question. Do not climb to, bend, move, or replace dish equipment based on the screen message alone.

What to do if the fault continues
For a dish serving your home alone
If the signal problem persists, happens intermittently, or remains after checking the box-end connections, follow Sky’s current troubleshooting and engineer route. Sky’s screen-message guide identifies symptom categories; it does not, in the accessible guidance, provide a homeowner procedure for diagnosing alignment or deciding which hardware to replace. A qualified engineer can assess the dish, LNB, and cabling.

Buying a replacement cable is not a dish diagnosis
Start by checking the existing accessible connection. The cited community advice does not establish that you need a new dish, LNB, alignment meter, or repair kit. If an indoor coax lead is visibly damaged or its connection cannot be secured, confirm that any replacement cable and F connectors are compatible with your setup; replacing a cable will not establish whether the dish is aligned.
