Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo check whether your Radeon GPU and Linux setup are supported by ROCm, match the exact GPU model, ROCm release, Linux distribution and kernel in AMD’s compatibility documentation. Then check the AMD driver and firmware requirements, and verify framework compatibility separately if you plan to use PyTorch, TensorFlow, ONNX Runtime or Triton. A Linux system detecting the card does not establish official ROCm support.
Check the exact GPU and ROCm release first
- Identify the exact Radeon model. Use the full model name shown by your system or on the product label. A family name such as “Radeon RX 9000” is not precise enough: AMD’s tables list individual cards and may distinguish variants.
- Choose the ROCm version you intend to install. Open the compatibility page for that specific release and check its GPU entries. AMD’s ROCm 10.1.0 unified compatibility matrix is the starting point for that release. AMD also publishes a Radeon-specific ROCm 7.2.1 Linux matrix. Do not combine entries from these two pages as if they describe one tested configuration.
- Match the model exactly. Confirm that the card appears in the table for the selected release. Where AMD lists a GPU target or architecture, check that entry too; support for a nearby model does not establish support for yours.
The model list can change between releases. For example, AMD’s Radeon Linux matrix for ROCm 7.2.1 lists Radeon RX 9060, RX 9060 XT, RX 9070, RX 9070 XT, RX 9070 GRE, RX 7900 XTX, RX 7900 XT, RX 7900 GRE, RX 7700, RX 7700 XT and RX 7800 XT, as well as several Radeon PRO models. Treat that list as specific to ROCm 7.2.1, not as a guarantee for another release.

Match the Linux distribution and kernel in the same matrix
A supported GPU alone is not enough. Check the operating system and kernel entries on the page for your chosen ROCm version. The Radeon ROCm 7.2.1 matrix lists Ubuntu 24.04.4 Desktop with HWE/kernel 6.17, Ubuntu 22.04.5 Desktop with HWE/kernel 6.8, and RHEL 10.1 with kernel 6.12. Those combinations should not be treated as a list of requirements for ROCm 10.1.0.
Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down

Its current Radeon entries specify Ubuntu 24.04.4, Ubuntu 22.04.5, RHEL 10.1 and RHEL 9.7 for the listed products. That set differs from the operating systems in the ROCm 7.2.1 Radeon matrix. Use the table matching your target release rather than merging the pages’ GPU and OS lists.

Check the rest of the software stack
ROCm compatibility depends on aligned firmware, driver and user-space components, not just a GPU and a Linux distribution. AMD’s ROCm 10.1.0 matrix provides versioned OS, kernel, driver and firmware requirements. Confirm that the AMD driver and ROCm packages you plan to install match the requirements for your release and operating system.
Verify your framework separately
If your goal is to run a framework or runtime, check its supported combinations in the relevant AMD compatibility table as well. A GPU and Linux configuration supported by ROCm do not automatically mean every version of PyTorch, TensorFlow, ONNX Runtime or Triton is supported. Match the framework version to the ROCm release and platform listed for it.

What an unlisted GPU means
AMD’s Linux system-requirements documentation states: “If a GPU is not listed on this table, it’s not officially supported by AMD.” AMD notes that some unlisted GPUs might be enabled through TheRock nightly builds, but that community enablement is not part of the official ROCm release. A device appearing in runtime tools or running a workload is not evidence that AMD officially supports that configuration.

Use runtime checks only after confirming compatibility
After installing a matching stack, tools such as rocminfo and a small workload can help check whether the system enumerates the device and whether an application runs. These are practical installation checks, not substitutes for AMD’s support matrix. Follow the installation guide for your exact ROCm release for command syntax and prerequisites.

Recheck before installing or buying hardware
AMD’s compatibility tables are release-specific and can change. Before installing—or choosing a card for ROCm—reopen the matrix for the exact ROCm release and confirm the GPU, Linux release and kernel, driver and firmware, and intended framework. A model appearing in an older Radeon table does not by itself confirm support in a newer release.
