On your Pixel 6, check Settings > System > About phone for the installed Android version and security patch level. To check whether an update is available, go to Settings > System > Software update. Google’s published policy provides five years of Android and security updates for the Pixel 6, measured from its first availability on the US Google Store—an approximate support window through October 2026, not a guaranteed date for the last update on every phone.
Check what is installed on your Pixel 6
- Open Settings.
- Tap System, then About phone.
- Read Android version and Android security patch level.
The Android version identifies the installed operating-system release; the security patch level shows the date of the security update currently installed. These details describe your phone’s status, not how long Google’s support policy lasts. Google’s instructions are at Check & update your Android version.

Check whether an update is available
- Open Settings > System > Software update.
- Review the status shown and follow any on-screen instructions to check for or install an update.
If an update is offered, Google recommends connecting to Wi-Fi and charging the phone to at least 75% before installing; updates can be large. A downloaded Pixel update installs in the background and becomes active after you restart the phone. See Google’s Android update instructions and Pixel update instructions.
How long Google says the Pixel 6 gets updates
Google currently lists the Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 6a for five years of operating-system and security updates, counted from each model’s first availability on the Google Store in the United States. Google announced Pixel 6 availability beginning October 28, 2021, which places the five-year window at approximately October 2026. The policy page does not specify an exact final patch date, so this is an estimate of the commitment’s endpoint, not a promise that every carrier or handset will receive its final update on a particular day. Google expanded the Pixel 6 series commitment in December 2024, adding two years to bring the total to five years of Android and security updates. The announcement is available in the December 2024 Pixel update.

An empty or unchanged update check does not by itself prove that support has ended. Google says updates roll out gradually and depend on carrier and device; a rollout may take a few weeks to reach a particular phone. Check again later and use the displayed patch level to confirm what is installed. Google does not publish a guaranteed final delivery date for every regional or carrier variant.
