The reliable way to check LineageOS compatibility is to identify your phone’s exact model number and variant, find that device in the official LineageOS Wiki, and then read the current device page and version-specific installation guide. A familiar retail name, an old tutorial, or an unofficial build is not enough to establish current official support.
What “supported by LineageOS” actually means
Compatibility is not a single yes-or-no label. You need to establish three related facts:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Device identity: the exact model number, regional or carrier variant, and LineageOS codename match the device described by the Wiki.
- Maintenance status: the official device page is currently maintained, rather than merely surviving as a historical page.
- Version availability: the device has an installation or upgrade guide for the particular LineageOS release you intend to use.
Those facts can differ. A phone may have had official builds in the past but no longer be maintained. A guide may describe an older release while the device has moved to a newer codename or build arrangement. Conversely, several retail names can share one official build, provided the exact variants listed by LineageOS match your phone.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesUse the official LineageOS device information as the deciding reference. Forum posts, download mirrors, videos, and an unofficial build can help you investigate, but none of them independently proves current official support.

Step 1: Record the phone’s exact identity
Start with the phone in your hand, not a search-engine result. Write down every identifier that appears in the device settings, on the original packaging, or on a label on the hardware. The broad commercial name is only a starting point.
Find the model number in Android
- Open Settings.
- Open About phone. Some manufacturers place this under System, Device information, or a similarly named menu.
- Record the value labelled Model, Model number, or an equivalent field. Also note the Android version and, if shown, the build number.
Menu labels vary by manufacturer and Android version. If the settings screen shows both a product name and a longer alphanumeric model code, keep both. The longer code is normally the more useful identifier for checking a variant.
Check the physical phone and packaging
If the phone will not boot, inspect its rear label, SIM tray area, regulatory label, or the box. Record punctuation and suffixes exactly. A single letter or regional suffix can distinguish a compatible model from a similar-looking one. Do not substitute an international model number for a carrier model, or vice versa, unless the official device page explicitly includes both.

Record region and carrier details
Note the country or region in which the phone was sold and the carrier branding, if any. LineageOS pages sometimes distinguish variants that share a commercial name. A device that looks identical externally may use different firmware, a different modem, or a different bootloader configuration.
Step 2: Find the official LineageOS device page
Search the LineageOS Wiki using the commercial name together with the model number you recorded. If you already know a likely codename, include it in the search, but do not assume that a codename found in a forum is correct.
An official device page normally identifies the supported product name, codename, and links to installation or upgrade instructions. Read the page itself rather than relying on a search-result snippet. Wiki pages can be revised, retired, or replaced as maintainers change.
Use a variant selector when one is present
Some device information pages provide a selector for variants. Choose the entry that matches your exact model number and region or carrier. If the selector lists multiple commercial names under one codename, that means the official build may cover those names; it does not mean every phone sold under those names is automatically included.

Variant comparisons may omit differences that matter to installation. Treat the selector as a way to reach the right instructions, not as permission to combine firmware or recovery files from two entries.
Confirm the codename
LineageOS uses codenames to identify devices internally. The codename on the official page should match the codename used in the installation guide and downloads for your device. A commercial name can map to a different codename in another generation, region, or hardware revision, so never select a package solely because its retail name looks familiar.
Step 3: Read maintenance and release information
Once you find a likely page, determine whether it represents active official support or only historical documentation.
Look for an explicit maintenance notice
A device page can state that a device is no longer maintained. That wording matters: it indicates that the page is not evidence of current official builds or ongoing fixes. Do not treat the existence of an old wiki page as proof that you can install the newest LineageOS release.
Recommended Free Tools
The LineageOS Wiki page titled “Info about Z00L” is an example of a device page marked no longer maintained. It is useful for understanding why an old search result can be misleading, but it should not be read as a current-support confirmation.
Check the guide’s LineageOS version
Installation and upgrade pages are version-specific. A guide can remain online for a legacy release after the device’s support arrangement has changed. The “Install LineageOS on flo” documentation, for example, records a codename migration and includes a legacy-version notice. That kind of notice is a signal to stop and locate the current device page or migration instructions before proceeding.
Write down the release named in the guide. If the page does not clearly correspond to the release you intend to install, do not infer that the procedures are interchangeable. Recovery images, firmware requirements, partition layouts, and upgrade paths can change between releases.

Separate three possible outcomes
| What you find | What it establishes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Current official device page with matching model and a current guide | Your phone appears eligible for the release and procedure named on that page. | It does not make instructions for another model or release safe. |
| Official page marked no longer maintained | The device had official documentation or builds at some point. | It does not establish current official support. |
| Old guide with a legacy or migration notice | The guide describes a historical arrangement or a transition. | It does not establish that the old codename or files remain the current path. |
| Forum post or unofficial build only | Someone may have produced a build or described a method. | It does not establish official LineageOS support or maintenance. |
Step 4: Match every requirement in the installation guide
Do not begin installation merely because the device page exists. Open the complete guide for the exact model and release and make a checklist of its prerequisites.
Model-number requirements
The guide may list exact model numbers that are allowed. If your number is absent, stop and resolve the discrepancy with a current official device page. A similar product name is not a substitute for a listed model.
Stock firmware requirements
Some devices require a particular version of the manufacturer’s stock firmware before LineageOS can be installed. The “Install LineageOS on merlinx” guide illustrates this type of requirement. It warns that using the wrong firmware can cause installation failure, crashes, or permanent damage.
Do not generalize a firmware requirement from one phone to another. Firmware packages are device- and sometimes region-specific. Use the version, source, and installation order stated in your own guide.
Bootloader and recovery requirements
Check whether the guide requires an unlocked bootloader, a particular recovery image, a vendor firmware level, or a specific sequence of reboot commands. The guide may also specify whether the bootloader can be unlocked for your variant at all.

Official instructions commonly require a computer, a reliable USB cable, and the Android Debug Bridge and fastboot tools. The “Install LineageOS on G” page identifies these basic prerequisites. They are installation requirements, not evidence that every phone with the same retail family name is supported.
Data-erasure warnings
Unlocking a bootloader normally triggers a factory reset. The “Install LineageOS on earth” guide explicitly warns about data erasure as part of its device-specific procedure. Back up photos, messages, authenticator data, contacts, and any files stored locally before you unlock or wipe anything. Verify that the backup can be restored; a cloud-sync icon alone is not proof that every app’s data is preserved.

How model names, variants, and shared builds cause mistakes
One commercial name can cover different hardware
Manufacturers often reuse a product-family name across countries, carriers, storage tiers, or radio configurations. The LineageOS Wiki may support one subset and exclude another. Compare the exact model number, not just the name printed on the front of the phone.
Several commercial names can share one build
The “Info about clark variants” material demonstrates the opposite situation: multiple commercial names can be represented by one device codename and build. This is valid only when the official variant information and guide include your model. Shared branding is not, by itself, a reason to flash the same files.
A codename can change
Device support can move from an old codename to a newer build name. The “Install LineageOS on flo” documentation records such a migration. If a search result points to the old codename, follow the migration information and current device page instead of downloading the first matching file.
Partial comparisons are not a substitute for the guide
Variant pages can warn that some differences are not shown in their comparison. Treat a comparison as an index, not a complete hardware audit. The final authority for model eligibility, firmware, bootloader state, and recovery is the installation guide for the selected variant.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Official support versus unofficial builds
Official support means that the device appears in LineageOS’s own device information and has the associated official guidance for a stated release. An unofficial build may be useful to an experienced developer, but it has a different maintenance, security, and recovery profile.
Do not call a phone officially supported because:
- a forum user posted a successful installation;
- a download site lists a LineageOS file;
- a video shows the same-looking phone running a custom ROM;
- an old Wiki page exists without a current maintenance status; or
- another model under the same retail name is listed.
If only unofficial material exists, describe the result accurately: you found an unofficial method, not confirmation of current official support. That distinction affects update availability, documentation, bug reporting, and the likelihood of receiving timely security fixes.
A practical decision checklist
Use this checklist before downloading anything:
- Have you recorded the exact model number from Settings, the hardware, or packaging?
- Have you noted the sales region and carrier variant?
- Did you find the device in the official LineageOS Wiki rather than only in a forum or mirror?
- Does the official page list your model number or select it through a variant control?
- Does the codename on the device page match the codename in the guide?
- Is the page currently maintained, with no notice that the device is retired?
- Does the guide name the LineageOS version you plan to install?
- Does it specify stock firmware, bootloader, recovery, or other prerequisites for your exact model?
- Have you read the warnings about unlocking and data erasure?
- Do you have a verified backup before beginning any unlock, wipe, or flash operation?
If any answer is “no” or “unclear,” the compatibility check is incomplete. Resolve that item first rather than guessing from a similar phone.

Examples of how to interpret real Wiki pages
| Wiki example | Lesson for your check |
|---|---|
| Install LineageOS on G | Exact model matching and basic computer and USB prerequisites can be part of the official procedure. |
| Install LineageOS on earth | Device-specific bootloader instructions can include an explicit warning that unlocking erases data. |
| Install LineageOS on merlinx | The required stock firmware version is device-specific; the wrong firmware can lead to failure, crashes, or permanent damage. |
| Install LineageOS on flo | A codename migration and legacy-version notice mean an old guide should not be treated as the current path. |
| Info about Z00L | An official-looking page can be marked no longer maintained, so page existence alone is insufficient. |
| Info about clark variants | Variant selectors can associate multiple commercial names with one build while still requiring an exact model match. |
| Upgrade LineageOS on caprip | Upgrade instructions can be distinct from a clean installation; use the procedure written for the device and release you have. |
These examples illustrate how to read the Wiki; they are not a complete inventory of supported phones. Your own device page and its current guide determine the result.
Common failure points before installation
“My phone name appears, but my model number does not”
Stop. Search the exact model number and inspect the variant selector or guide. If the number is not listed, do not assume that a regional or carrier sibling is equivalent.
“The guide is several releases old”
Check the page for a legacy-version or migration notice and locate the current device entry. An older procedure may use a different recovery, firmware level, or codename.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
“A download page offers a file, but the Wiki does not list my device”
Treat that file as unofficial or unverified for the purpose of this check. Do not flash it merely because the filename contains your phone’s marketing name.
“The phone booted after an unofficial installation”
Successful booting does not retroactively establish official support. Keep the official and unofficial status separate when assessing future updates, security maintenance, and troubleshooting options.
“I am ready to unlock, but the backup is incomplete”
Delay the operation. Because unlocking can erase the phone, finish and verify the backup before following the guide’s unlock step.
How to recheck support later
Support is time-dependent. Recheck the official device page whenever you plan a major upgrade, return to LineageOS after using another operating system, or discover that a guide has changed. Look again for maintenance status, codename changes, release labels, and revised firmware or recovery requirements.

The safe conclusion for your phone
You can call a phone currently supported only when its exact variant is identified on the current official LineageOS device information, the page is maintained, and a guide exists for the LineageOS version you intend to use. The guide must also accept your model and satisfy its firmware, bootloader, recovery, computer, and backup requirements.
If any of those conditions is missing, the honest result is narrower: the phone may have historical support, a different supported variant, or an unofficial build, but current official compatibility has not been established. Do not proceed until the exact device page and its instructions resolve the uncertainty.
