Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To check whether your PC can run an upcoming game, compare your computer’s exact operating system, processor, graphics card, memory, and storage with the game publisher’s current PC requirements. Meeting the minimum specs means your PC appears to meet the publisher’s baseline; it does not guarantee a successful launch, smooth play, or a particular frame rate. Because requirements can change before release, check the official listing again near launch.
Where to find the game’s requirements
Start with the publisher’s website or the store page where you plan to buy the game. On Steam, open the game’s store page and scroll to System Requirements. Check the supported operating systems as well as the hardware list; a PC can have powerful components and still be incompatible with a listed operating system. Steam Support explains where Steam store pages list system requirements and supported operating systems.

Record both the minimum and recommended requirements. Copy the operating system, CPU, GPU, RAM, and storage details, along with any DirectX version, shader level, or other graphics feature. If the publisher gives a resolution, graphics preset, or frame-rate target for either tier, record it too. Without that context, “recommended” does not tell you what visual quality or performance to expect.

How to identify your PC’s hardware in Windows
- Search Windows for
dxdiagand open the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. - On the System tab, check the operating system, processor, and memory. Microsoft’s instructions also show where to find the installed DirectX version under System Information. See Microsoft’s DxDiag instructions.
- Use the display information in DxDiag to identify the graphics device. If you need to confirm its exact model, check Windows’ device information or the computer or graphics-card maker’s documentation.
- Check how much storage is available on the drive where you expect to install the game. Compare available space with the listing’s storage requirement.
How to compare your PC with the requirements
Compare each field separately; a stronger component does not make up for a mismatch in another required field.

| What to compare | What to check |
|---|---|
| Operating system | Supported Windows version and whether the listing requires a 64-bit operating system. |
| CPU | The exact processor model, not just its brand or the number of cores. |
| GPU and graphics features | The exact graphics-card model and every listed DirectX, shader, or other feature requirement. |
| RAM | Installed system memory compared with the listed amount. |
| Storage | The listed capacity and the available space on the intended installation drive. |
DirectX version alone does not prove that a graphics card supports every feature a game requires. Steam Support cautions: “If you are not sure what Pixel Shader level your video card can support, there is a chance that your video card will not be capable of running a game that requires an advanced Pixel Shader model – even if your card meets the minimum DirectX requirements.” See Steam Support’s DirectX and pixel shader guidance.
What the result does—and does not—tell you
If your PC appears to meet every minimum requirement
Your computer appears to match the publisher’s stated baseline. That is not a guarantee that the game will launch reliably, run smoothly, or reach a specific FPS. Minimum requirements alone do not establish a performance result. iTechGuides also notes that listed minimum specs do not promise a particular performance outcome.

If your PC misses a listed minimum
That mismatch may prevent the game from launching or may lead to poor performance, but its practical effect depends on the game and the component involved. Do not call the game impossible to run unless the publisher identifies a hard incompatibility.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesIf your PC appears to meet recommended requirements
This is a stronger sign than meeting only the minimum tier, but it still does not define the intended experience unless the publisher ties those specs to a stated resolution, settings preset, or frame rate.

If the game is unreleased or the listing is incomplete
Treat the result as uncertain. Do not substitute a third-party “can I run it” score for missing official requirements without accounting for its limits. Recheck the publisher’s listing as release approaches, since requirements may be revised.
