On your OnePlus phone, open Settings > About device, then tap the displayed version number. The update screen will tell you whether OnePlus is currently offering software for that phone. It cannot, by itself, confirm eligibility for the announced ColorOS upgrade because OnePlus has not published a complete model list or rollout schedule in its notice.
Start with the built-in update check
The fastest official check is the software-update screen already installed on your phone. OnePlus documents this path in its OxygenOS 14 user manual:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Open Settings.
- Tap About device.
- Tap the displayed version number.
- Allow the phone to check for available software.
- If an update is offered, review the version information and use the on-screen download and installation controls.
The exact wording or location can vary with your OxygenOS version, region, language and carrier customisation. If your phone uses a slightly different label, look for the software-version entry inside About device; do not assume that a different menu name means the phone is excluded.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhat the update screen can—and cannot—tell you
| Result on the phone | What it establishes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| An update is available | OnePlus is currently offering that software package to your device configuration. | That the package is ColorOS, or that every regional or carrier variant of the model will receive ColorOS. |
| No update is available | No update is being offered to the phone at the moment of the check. | That the handset is permanently ineligible for ColorOS. OnePlus has not published a complete eligible-model list or rollout calendar in the notice. |
| The phone reports an OxygenOS update | Your existing software-maintenance channel is working and an OxygenOS build is available. | That the phone is eligible for ColorOS. OxygenOS and ColorOS eligibility are separate questions. |
| The menu has no ColorOS wording | There is no ColorOS package being offered through that screen at that time. | That the phone will never qualify. Availability can depend on the device, market and carrier, and OnePlus has not supplied a full schedule. |
Use the result as a live availability check, not as a definitive model-eligibility database. A phone can be within an eligible scope while its regional rollout has not started, or it can receive routine OxygenOS maintenance without being included in the ColorOS scope.

What OnePlus has officially said about the ColorOS change
OnePlus’s business adjustment notice says: “Following the official release of ColorOS 17, users with existing OnePlus devices that fall within the eligible upgrade scope will have the option to voluntarily update to the latest ColorOS.” Three details in that sentence matter when you interpret the update screen.
Eligibility is limited to a defined scope
OnePlus refers to devices “within the eligible upgrade scope,” but the notice does not name the models, regional variants or carriers in that scope. Therefore, it is not accurate to declare that a particular OnePlus model qualifies solely because it is new, powerful, or listed for another OxygenOS release.
The upgrade is optional
The notice describes the ColorOS move as voluntary. An eligible owner should be offered a choice rather than being told that every existing OnePlus phone will automatically switch operating systems. If you prefer to remain on OxygenOS, the existence of a ColorOS offer does not, according to that notice, make acceptance mandatory.

ColorOS 17 must be officially released first
The wording ties the option to the official release of ColorOS 17. A current software check therefore cannot show a ColorOS 17 package before OnePlus has released it for the relevant device and market.

How to interpret “no update available”
A blank result is common during a staged rollout and is not proof of exclusion. The official notice supplies neither a complete model list nor rollout dates, so there is no authoritative comparison list against which you can mark your phone as eligible or ineligible.
Check the update screen again after OnePlus makes a device-specific announcement for your market. Keep the exact model designation, software version and carrier information available when contacting OnePlus support; those details are more useful than a marketing family name alone.
Do not use an OxygenOS 16 list as a ColorOS list
OnePlus separately explains that its OxygenOS 16 rollout timing varies by model, country and carrier, with carrier-exclusive schedules controlled by the carrier. That information describes OxygenOS 16, not ColorOS 17. Even if your phone appears on an OxygenOS 16 compatibility announcement, that is not evidence that it falls within the ColorOS upgrade scope.
Check the details that affect a rollout
Identify the exact device variant
Record the model name and any regional or carrier designation shown in About device. Two phones sold under a similar name can have different software channels. Eligibility announcements, when published, should be matched against the complete model and market variant rather than a shortened retail name.

Record the installed software
Write down the current OxygenOS version and the phone’s build information before you check again. This lets support distinguish an up-to-date device from one waiting for an earlier prerequisite update, without treating an OxygenOS build number as proof of ColorOS eligibility.
Confirm the market and carrier
Use the country in which the phone is being used and the network that supplied it. OnePlus says rollout timing for its separate OxygenOS 16 program can differ by country and carrier, and carrier-exclusive schedules are set by the carrier. The same practical caution applies when you are waiting for any announced software offer: an announcement in one market does not establish availability in another.
What happens if ColorOS appears
- Read the package name and release notes on the update screen. Confirm that the offer is identified as ColorOS rather than a routine OxygenOS or security update.
- Check that the model and region shown by the phone match the device you intend to update.
- Review the installation prompt and make a backup of data you cannot replace before proceeding. The official notice describes the choice as voluntary, so you can postpone the decision while you verify the details.
- Install only through the phone’s official update workflow or instructions supplied by OnePlus for that exact device. Do not treat an unofficial package or a list for another model as confirmation of eligibility.
The notice does not provide a universal installation date, a model-by-model timetable or a single package that applies to every OnePlus phone. Those details must come from a later, device-specific announcement or from the update offer shown on your handset.

Rollback information is not complete yet
OnePlus says that users who update to ColorOS will have the option to roll back to OxygenOS. It also says that the specific rollback versions will be set out in future official announcements. Do not assume that every OxygenOS release can be restored, that the rollback is identical in every market, or that the procedure is already documented for your model.

Before accepting a ColorOS offer, wait for the rollback instructions that apply to your phone if returning to OxygenOS is important to you. The current notice confirms the planned option, not the exact target build, timing or procedure.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Existing-device support continues separately
OnePlus says existing devices will continue to receive software updates and security patches during the support periods originally committed for each model. It also says legacy models outside the ColorOS scope will continue software maintenance. Consequently, a phone that never receives the ColorOS option can still remain within its previously promised OxygenOS support period.
Do not interpret the absence of a ColorOS offer as an immediate end to security maintenance. Check the support commitment for your specific model and keep installing official updates that appear on the device.

The phone shows only an OxygenOS update
Install or review that update as a normal maintenance release, but do not infer ColorOS eligibility from it. The OxygenOS 16 rollout information and the ColorOS announcement describe different programs.
The phone says it is up to date
That means no newer package is being offered to the phone at that moment. Because OnePlus has not published a complete ColorOS model list or schedule in the notice, wait for a market-specific announcement and check again rather than marking the model as excluded.
The update appears in another country but not yours
Software availability can be staged by market and carrier. Verify the country, carrier and exact device variant before comparing reports from elsewhere. A foreign rollout is not proof that your local variant is eligible or ready.
You cannot find the version entry
Open Settings > About device and look for the software or version information. Menu labels can differ by OxygenOS release. If the path on your phone does not match the OxygenOS 14 manual exactly, use the settings search function for “update” or “version,” then confirm that the result is the system-update page rather than an app-update screen.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →A third-party page names your model
Treat that as unconfirmed until OnePlus publishes a device-specific statement or the official update screen offers the package. The reviewed notice does not identify individual models, so a third-party list cannot fill that gap authoritatively.
A practical decision checklist
- Open Settings > About device and tap the version number.
- Capture the exact model, region or carrier variant and installed OxygenOS build.
- Read the package name instead of assuming every update is ColorOS.
- If no ColorOS offer appears, record the date of the check and wait for an official device- and market-specific announcement.
- Do not use an OxygenOS 16 compatibility list as proof of ColorOS eligibility.
- If ColorOS is offered, remember that OnePlus describes acceptance as voluntary.
- Before updating, look for rollback instructions that cover your exact device; OnePlus says the specific rollback versions are to be announced later.
- Continue installing ordinary OxygenOS updates and security patches during the support period committed for your model.
Why there is no reliable model-by-model answer yet
The practical limitation is not the phone’s settings menu; it is the scope of OnePlus’s public notice. The company announces an option for existing devices that fall within an eligible scope, but does not define that scope with a complete model table or publish rollout dates in the notice. Until those details are released, the only defensible answer for an individual handset combines the live update check with an official announcement that names the exact model and market.
That approach prevents two common errors: promising ColorOS to a model merely because it receives a different OxygenOS update, and declaring a phone ineligible merely because its staged offer has not appeared yet.
