Open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. If it lists an M1 chip or later—or identifies the computer as a MacBook Neo with A18 Pro—your Mac meets Apple’s currently listed hardware requirement for the next generation of Apple Intelligence. You’ll also need macOS 27, a supported language set for both your Mac and Siri, and enough available storage.

Check macOS and language settings
Update to macOS 27
Apple’s current system requirement for the next-generation Apple Intelligence features is macOS 27. Check the version installed on your Mac in About This Mac. If it is older, use Software Update in System Settings to see whether macOS 27 is available for your model.
Make the device and Siri languages match
Apple requires the device language and Siri language to be set to the same supported language. Check both settings if the hardware is eligible but Apple Intelligence is not available. The supported language list and feature availability can change; Apple also notes that some features may not be offered in every language or region. See Apple’s current requirements and availability details.

Check storage before troubleshooting further
Apple’s September 14, 2026 support page gives different storage requirements by Mac hardware group: up to 8 GB for other supported Mac models, and up to 14 GB for Mac models with M3 or later and at least 12 GB of unified memory. These are not one universal figure for every Mac. Check available storage if your Mac meets the chip, software, and language requirements but setup or a feature still does not work.

If your Mac passes the checks but Apple Intelligence is missing
Compatibility is not determined by the chip alone. Confirm that macOS is up to date, the device and Siri languages match and are supported, and there is enough storage. Then check whether the particular feature is available in your region and language: Apple describes Apple Intelligence as integrated across Mac apps and experiences, but says availability varies. Its Mac User Guide provides an overview of using Apple Intelligence on Mac.

If your Mac is not compatible
If About This Mac shows an Intel processor, or a chip earlier than M1, your computer is outside the Mac hardware Apple currently lists. The listed alternatives are a Mac with M1 or later or a MacBook Neo with A18 Pro. This check does not require buying anything; if you decide to replace an unsupported Mac, compare the specific model, memory, storage, price, and workload that matters to you before choosing.
