To check for an update available to your Galaxy phone now, open Settings > Software update > Download and install. To check whether the phone is listed for a particular One UI release, identify its exact model and compare it with Samsung’s schedule for your country or carrier. These checks answer different questions: a phone can be eligible for a release without that update being available to download yet.
Check whether an update is available now
- Open Settings.
- Tap Software update or, on some models, System updates.
- Tap Download and install. Depending on the phone or carrier, you may see a follow-up option such as Check for system updates, Check for software updates, or Download now.
- If an update is offered, follow the on-screen instructions. Some carriers require a Wi-Fi connection, and the phone may be unavailable while installation is underway.
Samsung’s Galaxy phone and tablet update instructions note that menu names and steps can vary by model, carrier, and software version. If the labels differ, look in Settings for the software-update option and follow the prompts shown on your device.

Find your exact model and installed software
Before checking a schedule for a named One UI release, record the device model and its current software details. On the phone, go to Settings > About phone > Software information. On a tablet, the first menu may say About tablet. The screen shows details such as the One UI version, Android version, and software build.
Use the exact model identifier—not just a family name such as “Galaxy S” or “Galaxy A”—when comparing with a release list. Samsung Canada documents the same steps for checking the OS version.

Check the schedule for the One UI release you mean
For a specific release, look for Samsung’s official schedule covering that release and match your exact model, country or region, and carrier or network operator. A schedule for one market should not be treated as a worldwide eligibility list. For example, Samsung India’s One UI 8 schedule is specific to India; the page was last updated October 1, 2026, and says that timing, supported functions, and eligibility may vary by model, country, or operator and that the schedule may change.
Samsung also explains that release timing can differ by location and mobile carrier. Its UK software-update guidance notes that older devices may not support the latest Android version because of hardware limitations. Check the schedule again if it changes, and use a page for your own market when one is available.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.
- Camera: 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 2 MP, f/2.4, (macro). Battery: 5000 mAh, non-removable | A power adapter is NOT included.
What it means if no update appears
If the manual check finds nothing, it means only that no update is being offered through that check at that time. It does not, by itself, show that your model is permanently ineligible for every future One UI release. Rollouts can reach eligible models at different times depending on market and carrier.
Recommended Free Tools
- Confirm the exact model in About phone.
- Check Samsung’s release schedule for the relevant country and carrier, if specified.
- Check Settings again later if the schedule indicates a rollout is underway.
- If available, use Samsung Smart Switch on a Windows PC or Mac to check for and install an available update. Connect the phone to the computer by USB and follow Samsung’s Smart Switch update instructions. Use a compatible cable; some computers may require an adapter.
Do not treat an older upgrade promise as a universal guarantee
Samsung announced in 2022 that select Galaxy devices could receive up to four generations of One UI and Android OS upgrades, subject to hardware requirements and the ability to optimize the experience. The same announcement described up to five years of security updates for select devices; security-update support is separate from the number of One UI or Android upgrades. Those historical commitments do not establish eligibility for every Galaxy phone or identify which models qualify for a particular current release. Check the exact model against Samsung’s release-specific information.
