1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTo see whether an update is available to install now, open Settings > Software update > Check for updates. To find out whether your exact Galaxy model is expected to get a particular One UI version, check Samsung’s compatibility guidance for that version or Samsung Members. Eligibility and rollout timing are different: a phone can be supported even if the update has not reached it yet.
Check for an update on the phone
- Open Settings.
- Tap Software update. Depending on the phone and software version, the menu may instead be called System updates.
- Tap Check for updates. Some versions show Download and install first.
- If an update is offered, review the update information and follow the on-screen instructions. Samsung notes that some carriers may require Wi-Fi, and the phone cannot be used while installation is in progress. See Samsung’s Galaxy phone and tablet update instructions.
This check tells you what is available for that device at the time you check. Menu labels and screens can vary by model, software version, and carrier.

Check eligibility for a specific One UI version
For future support, use the phone’s exact model and the One UI version you want to check. Samsung publishes version-specific compatibility guidance and points users to Samsung Members for compatibility information. A list for one One UI release does not prove eligibility for a different release, and a list for one country should not be assumed to apply worldwide. See Samsung’s One UI 9 guide and its One UI 9 information page.

That is a version- and region-specific reference, not a promise that every Galaxy device—or every regional variant—will receive One UI 8. Samsung has also published local guidance; its Canada guide says it applies to mobile devices sold in Canada and notes that settings and functions may vary by model, carrier, and network. Look for Samsung’s support page for your country when available.

Find your exact model and current software version
Open Settings > About phone to identify the phone, then open Software information to see its installed software details. Compare the precise model—not just the product family name—with Samsung’s list for the target One UI version. Samsung’s update guide describes where to find software version details.
If the phone was supplied by a carrier, check that carrier’s software release information as well. Samsung says availability and timing can vary by model, carrier, network, and the timing of Android OS upgrades.

Why an eligible phone may not show the update yet
Samsung releases updates over time, and availability can differ by model, carrier, network, and market. So a phone that Samsung lists as supported may not have received the rollout yet. A missing offer on the update screen does not, on its own, establish that the phone is permanently ineligible.
- Confirm the exact model and installed software version in Settings > About phone > Software information.
- Check Samsung’s current compatibility guidance for the specific One UI version and your country.
- If the phone is carrier supplied, consult the carrier’s software-release information.
- Run the phone’s update check again later if Samsung lists the model as compatible but no update is offered.
Samsung announced in 2022 that select Galaxy devices would receive up to four generations of One UI and Android OS upgrades and up to five years of security updates. Those were maximum commitments for selected devices in that announcement, not a universal guarantee for every Galaxy phone or a substitute for checking the specific model. This is an alternative way to install an update if one is available, not a test of whether the phone qualifies. See Samsung’s Smart Switch update instructions.
