To find out whether your eye drops are included in a recall, compare the exact product and lot number on the bottle or box with the details in an official recall notice. A matching brand name alone is not enough: recalls may apply only to specified lots, sizes, or formulations.
Find the product and lot details on your package
Use the bottle or its original box, not a retailer listing or your memory. Write down the brand and full product name, strength or formulation, package size, manufacturer if shown, and lot number. The lot number is the key detail for checking whether a medicine matches a recall.

Search official FDA recall pages
- Start with the FDA’s eye-drop alerts and warnings for eye-drop-specific information.
- Search the FDA’s Drug Recalls page using the product name, brand, or manufacturer.
- If needed, search the broader Recalls, Market Withdrawals, & Safety Alerts page by product or company name.
Open the notice itself rather than relying on a search-result snippet. Check its product description, manufacturer, formulation or strength, package size, and affected lot numbers against the package in your possession. Also read the stated reason for the recall and the directions for consumers.

Decide whether the notice matches your package
- Product and lot match: Treat the package as included and follow the notice’s instructions.
- Product matches but the lot does not: Check whether the notice covers additional lots, sizes, or formulations before drawing a conclusion. Do not assume that all products with the same brand are included—or excluded.
- You cannot identify the lot or product clearly: Contact the manufacturer or the pharmacy that dispensed the drops and ask them to help identify the package.
If you do not find a matching recall
A search with no match means only that you did not find a notice in the pages you checked; it does not prove that no recall exists. The FDA notes that not all recalls are announced on FDA.gov or in news media. Its broad recalls page covers certain press releases and public notices, and listings remain available there for three years before archival.
For an older notice, search the FDA archive by product or company name and year. If the result is still unclear, ask the manufacturer or dispensing pharmacy to verify the product and lot. The FDA also provides recall data sets, including firm-issued recall files.

Symptoms that need prompt attention
Eye drops must be sterile because they are applied to the eye, and the FDA has described serious outcomes associated with contamination-related recalls. If you experience an issue such as eye discharge, pain, vision changes, or discomfort, stop using the drops and talk to a doctor. The FDA also advises reporting unexpected side effects.
