How to Check Whether Your Apps and Peripherals Work on a Snapdragon X2 Plus Laptop

Check your exact apps, accessories and laptop configuration before relying on a Snapdragon X2 Plus system. Native Arm64 support, emulation and drivers all matter.

Before relying on a Snapdragon X2 Plus laptop, verify each app and peripheral by its exact name, version or model—not just by the device’s processor family. Native Arm64 apps are built for Windows on Arm; many x86 and x64 apps can run through Windows emulation, but unsupported drivers can prevent hardware or software that depends on them from working fully. Check the publisher’s or manufacturer’s support information, then test the workflow you actually need.

Start with the exact laptop, app and device

Write down the specific laptop model and configuration you are considering, the app versions you use, and the model numbers of connected devices. Snapdragon X2 Plus is used in multiple laptop models; Qualcomm’s laptop finder lists systems including the Acer Swift Spin 14 AI, Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5x, HP EliteBook X G2q, HP OmniBook 5 and Microsoft Surface 13. A chip-family listing does not confirm that a particular app or accessory works with a particular laptop. Ports, bundled drivers and Windows configurations can differ by system.

Check the app and every component it needs: plug-ins, add-ins, security software, virtualization features, anti-cheat components and hardware drivers. Compatibility of the main program alone does not establish that its dependencies work. Microsoft recommends checking with the software publisher when support is uncertain in its Windows Arm-based PCs FAQ and Arm-based Surface devices FAQ.

Understand native apps, emulation and drivers

What you find What it means What to verify
Native Arm64 app The publisher offers a version built for Arm architecture. Confirm that the version, features, plug-ins and connected hardware you need are supported.
x86 or x64 app It may run through Windows emulation on Arm. Test performance and check dependencies such as drivers, security components, anti-cheat or virtualization.
Peripheral with built-in Windows support or an Arm64 driver A driver path may be available. Confirm support for the exact model, advanced features, companion software and current driver release.
Catalog entry or general compatibility claim A useful starting point for investigation. Verify the exact app or device version and the workflow you rely on.

Native Arm64 software

Look on the publisher’s download or support page for an Arm64 or Windows on Arm build. A native build avoids relying on x86 or x64 app emulation, but you should still check whether required add-ins, plug-ins and connected devices are supported.

x86 and x64 apps under Prism

Windows 11 on Arm supports emulation for x86 and x64 applications. Microsoft says Windows 11 version 24H2 includes Prism for improved performance with emulated apps, and its emulation documentation describes Prism as optimized for Snapdragon processors. Emulation can let many existing applications run without a native Arm build; it does not supply a missing device driver. Check the app developer’s current support statement and test the tasks you need.

Drivers are a separate compatibility check

Microsoft’s guidance is direct: “If a driver doesn’t work, the app or hardware that relies on it doesn’t work either (at least not fully).” The device must have the required driver built into Windows or supplied by its maker as an Arm64 driver. Confirm that support for the exact model with the manufacturer; a successful app installation or basic device detection does not prove every feature works.

Check peripherals by manufacturer and model

Search the manufacturer’s support page for the exact device model and Windows 11 on Arm or Arm64 driver information. Also check whether any required companion utility is supported. If the device is listed as compatible but depends on a separate utility or driver for advanced functions, verify those pieces individually.

Printers

Microsoft says Windows 11 Arm PCs support most printers, including printers that support Mopria. If a printer does not connect, Microsoft recommends following the manufacturer’s instructions. Standard printing may work while vendor-specific utilities or advanced features require separate supported software; check the printer maker’s instructions for your exact model.

Use compatibility catalogs as leads, not guarantees

Works on Windows on Arm can help you discover reported app and game compatibility, but an entry is not a substitute for checking the version and features you need with the publisher. Microsoft’s August 25, 2026 developer blog reported over 7,000 verified apps and games in the catalog at that time; the figure can change. The catalog does not establish compatibility for every peripheral or every app dependency.

Follow this pre-purchase or setup check

  1. Record the exact configuration. Note the laptop model, app names and versions, peripheral model numbers, and the features or tasks you need.
  2. Check each app publisher’s support or download page. Look for Windows on Arm or Arm64 support. If the available app is x86 or x64, check whether the publisher supports running it under emulation.
  3. Check dependencies separately. Verify plug-ins, add-ins, security or virtualization components, anti-cheat software and any drivers the app or workflow requires.
  4. Check each peripheral maker’s support page. Look for an Arm64 driver or an explicit Windows 11 on Arm support statement for the exact model. For a printer, also check Mopria support and the maker’s setup instructions.
  5. Use a compatibility catalog as a cross-check. Treat an entry as a lead, then confirm the specific version, device model and needed features with the publisher or manufacturer.
  6. Test the real workflow if possible. Connect the device, install the required software and exercise the feature that matters. Do not stop at installation or basic detection.

What to do if a critical app is not confirmed

Ask the software publisher whether it offers, or plans to support, an Arm build and whether the specific features you rely on work under emulation. For a critical business app that remains incompatible, eligible Microsoft 365 or Windows plan customers may request compatibility help through App Assure; confirm eligibility with Microsoft.
