Check two things: the update status shown in your phone’s Settings, and the manufacturer’s support information for your exact model. Settings shows which updates are installed and whether one is available now; it does not confirm that the manufacturer will keep issuing updates in the future.
1. Find your exact phone model
Open Settings and look under About phone for the device name and model. Record the full model designation, not just its product-family name: support can differ between models in the same family. For a carrier-specific handset, also note the carrier and country or region.

2. Check the installed update levels
On many Android phones, open Settings > About phone > Android version. Google says this screen shows three distinct values: the Android version, the Android security update level, and the Google Play system level. Menu names and locations can differ by manufacturer.
- Android version: the operating-system release currently installed. Major Android-version upgrades and security-patch support are separate; a phone can stop receiving one before the other.
- Android security update level: the system patch-level value reported by the phone. It tells you about the installed patch level, not whether more patches are promised.
- Google Play system level: a separate update status for components delivered through Google Play. It is not a substitute for checking standard system updates.
Google explains where to find these values and check for updates in its Android update guide.

3. Check for updates available now
- For a system update, open Settings > System > Software Update, or use the equivalent software-update option on your phone. Follow the prompts if an update is offered.
- Separately, check Settings > Security and Privacy > System and Updates for Security update and Google Play system update. The exact labels or path may vary.
- If no update appears, restart the phone and check again. Google says a download that does not finish may be retried over the next few days; low storage can also interrupt an update.
“Your system is up to date” or “No updates available” describes the result of that check at that time. It does not say whether the phone is still eligible for future security updates.
4. Confirm whether the exact model remains supported
Look up the model on the manufacturer’s current official software-update or security-support page. Match the full model and, where relevant, the region and carrier. For carrier-delivered models, check with the carrier if the manufacturer’s page does not resolve the question.

- DISPLAY: Immersive viewing on a 6.7-inch super-bright 120Hz display with powerful stereo speakers and Bass Boost for cinematic entertainment.

- PERFORMANCE: Lightning-fast 5G connectivity paired with a powerful processor and RAM Boost for smooth multitasking.
- BATTERY LIFE: Long-lasting 5000mAh battery with TurboPower charging technology delivers hours of power in minutes.
- Google Pixel: Google’s Pixel update policy lists coverage by model. Google says Pixel 8 and later receive updates for seven years from when each model first became available on the Google Store in the United States. That commitment should not be applied to older Pixel models; check the relevant row.
- Samsung Galaxy: Samsung’s Mobile Security page lists devices receiving monthly, quarterly, or biannual security firmware updates. Samsung describes support as extending by “up to 7 years” for Galaxy devices; check the exact model rather than assuming every Galaxy phone receives that duration.
- Motorola: Motorola’s security update page provides product information and notes that products in an update cycle can change as support periods expire. Select the appropriate regional page and exact model; carrier differences may apply.
- Other Android brands: Use the manufacturer’s official support page and ask the carrier about carrier-specific devices. There is no single support duration established here for every manufacturer, model, region, or carrier.
How to interpret what you find
Compare the phone’s displayed Android security update level with the manufacturer’s support information for that exact device. A date on the phone alone cannot confirm that future updates are still scheduled. Likewise, an older Android version does not by itself prove that security support has ended.
System over-the-air updates and Google Play system updates use distinct channels and can follow different delivery schedules. A current Play system level does not establish that the phone’s system software is receiving security patches. Android’s technical security picture can also involve components such as the kernel, which ordinary Settings screens may not summarize in one place.

If a displayed patch level appears behind a recently published Android security bulletin, treat that as a reason to check the manufacturer’s and, if applicable, carrier’s update information—not as proof on its own that the phone is unsupported. Rollout timing and availability depend on the device’s update providers and delivery process.

Use the manufacturer’s current model-specific page to verify the support status; published policies and lists can change. If you are comparing replacement phones, check the guaranteed security-support end date or duration, when that period starts, update cadence, whether major Android-version upgrades are included separately, and whether the commitment applies to the model and region you would buy. Do not infer one model’s support promise from another phone made by the same brand.
