To find out whether satellite internet can be ordered at your home, enter the full service address in each provider’s official checker, then compare the results with the FCC National Broadband Map. A provider’s address lookup is the practical check for current orderability; a broad coverage map or FCC listing alone does not guarantee that a specific plan can be ordered.
Check each provider with your exact service address
- Starlink: Open the Starlink Availability Map and enter the service address. The map labels areas as available or pending coverage or regulatory approval, and directs visitors to check availability and plans for their area.
- Hughesnet: Use the address-based checker on Hughesnet’s coverage page. If the initial entry does not resolve, provide the requested address details. The page says online ordering guidance is available for the contiguous United States; residents of Alaska and Puerto Rico are directed to phone or dealer guidance.
- Viasat: Enter the street address and ZIP code in Viasat’s order flow to see the plans available in the area.
Include the apartment or unit number when applicable, and use the address where service would actually be installed—not just a town, ZIP code, or nearby location. A provider may serve a region without offering every plan at every address. Hughesnet specifically notes that not all plans are available to all consumers.

Cross-check the address on the FCC National Broadband Map
Search the same address on the FCC National Broadband Map. The FCC’s fixed broadband map includes satellite service and can show providers reporting service at a location, the reported technologies, and maximum advertised download and upload speeds. You can filter by technology, speed, and residential or business location.
The map reports information submitted by internet providers; it is useful for discovering and comparing reported options, not as an order guarantee. If the FCC map lists a provider but that provider’s checker rejects your address, contact the provider for clarification and use its current checker to determine whether an order can proceed. If you believe the map’s availability information is wrong, the FCC provides a process for submitting an availability challenge.

Compare what is actually offered at your address
For each provider whose checker accepts the address, review the specific plans returned rather than relying on general coverage claims. Compare the available technology and advertised speeds, then check the plan’s data terms, fees, and other conditions in the provider’s current plan details or broadband label. Hughesnet’s broadband labels page notes that plan availability varies geographically.
Do not assume that a speed shown on the FCC map is a promise of the performance you will experience. It is a maximum advertised speed reported for that service; the provider’s plan information is the place to check the offer and terms that apply to your address.

Check whether your property suits the installation
Passing an address check does not establish that the equipment can be installed in a suitable spot. Starlink says service requires an unobstructed view of the sky and recommends using its app to identify an appropriate installation location. Hughesnet says a clear view of the southern sky is needed. Check the site conditions after confirming address eligibility; these installation requirements do not replace the provider lookup.

If no checker gives a clear answer
- Re-enter the complete service address, including unit details, and confirm the city, state, and ZIP code.
- Try another provider’s address checker; eligibility and plan availability can differ between providers.
- If the FCC map and a provider’s result conflict, contact the provider about current orderability. Use the FCC’s availability challenge process if the map itself appears inaccurate.
