For the most reliable answer, check the latest NBA Daily Team Injury Report for the exact game and player, then check again close to tipoff. The report is a time-stamped snapshot of the team’s stated availability; a starting lineup announcement is not a complete list of who can play.
How to check a player’s status
- Confirm the game and date. Make sure you have the right matchup and team; the daily report covers multiple games.
- Open the NBA Daily Team Injury Report. The NBA describes it as a central source for injury, illness, and rest information across NBA games. See the league’s description of the daily report.
- Find the player’s row. Check the game, team, player name, status, reason, and report time. NBA report examples show these fields, along with the game date and matchup; they illustrate the format, not current player availability: April 23, 2026 report and April 6, 2026 report.
- Check for a newer update. Revisit the league report near tipoff and look at the team’s official game-day updates. A player’s status can change after a report is published.
What the status labels mean
NBA injury-report examples include Available, Out, Doubtful, Questionable, and Probable. Read each label as the team’s reported status at the timestamp shown, not as a guarantee of whether the player will ultimately appear. The report may also list a reason such as injury, illness, or a non-injury note. The examples linked above are dated and should not be used to determine a player’s status for a different game.

Do not convert these labels into percentages: the cited NBA examples provide categories, not numerical odds. If a player is missing from the report, omission alone does not establish that the player is active or inactive. Check the team’s official update and look again closer to game time.

The starters list answers who will begin the game, not whether every other player is available. Under NBA Rule No. 3, Section II, scorers must receive the names and numbers of the starters at least 30 minutes before the scheduled start. A player not named as a starter may still be available as a reserve.

How to resolve conflicting updates
- Prefer official league or team information over a secondary tracker when sources disagree.
- Compare timestamps. A newer applicable update may supersede an older status.
- Match the game and date. Similar player names or reports for another matchup can lead to the wrong conclusion.
- Check what the source describes. An injury report concerns reported availability; a starting-five announcement identifies starters only.
How often the report updates
The NBA announced report-posting times of 1:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m., and 8:30 p.m. ET in 2018. Those are historical times, not a verified current schedule, so do not rely on them to predict when a new report will appear. The NBA’s 2026–27 key-dates page, updated August 19, 2026, says preseason games began October 3, 2026; it does not establish a current injury-report update cadence.
