Match every condition the advisory specifies—such as version, platform, component, enabled features and network exposure—before deciding whether to update or apply a stated mitigation.
1. Identify the exact engine and deployed build
Start with the software that is actually running, not just the product name in a dashboard or deployment file. Record the engine and its distribution (for example, upstream project or vendor package), version or commit/build identifier, operating system and architecture, and deployment date. For containers, record the image digest if available so you can distinguish the deployed artifact from a tag that may later point to a different image.

Use the identifier format named by the advisory. Version numbering can differ between upstream source, vendor forks and packaged distributions. For example, the NVD record for CVE-2024-42478 describes llama.cpp and lists builds before b3561 as affected. That build identifier is specific to the record; do not assume every engine uses comparable numbering.

Check the engine maintainer’s official security channel and the vendor’s product-security bulletins. These are the primary sources for affected ranges, fixed releases and any vendor-approved mitigation. For NVIDIA software, the NVIDIA Product Security page directs customers to bulletin guidance for updates or stated mitigations and offers security-notification subscriptions. NVIDIA says that, starting October 1, 2025, an initial set of bulletins is available in human-readable Markdown, CSAF and CVE formats, with coverage expanding over time.

For llama.cpp, consult the project’s security advisory index and open the notice relevant to the component you use. If the engine is distributed or managed by another vendor, check that vendor’s bulletin too: its package may have different patch status or version labels than upstream.
3. Match every affected condition
Read the advisory’s details rather than relying on its headline or severity score. Determine whether your deployment matches each condition it gives:

- Product and release: Is this the same engine, distribution, branch and version or build range?
- Platform: Does the advisory cover your operating system, architecture or package type?
- Component and feature state: Is the vulnerable component present, and is the relevant backend, API or feature enabled?
- Access assumptions: Does exploitation require authentication, a particular API call or some other prerequisite?
- Exposure: Can the relevant service be reached by an attacker under your deployment’s network and access controls?
- Fix: Which release or vendor-stated mitigation addresses this specific issue?
For instance, NVIDIA’s July 2026 TensorRT-LLM bulletin maps affected ranges to updated versions across multiple entries. Some listed CVEs are fixed by v1.3.0rc17 for versions through v1.3.0rc16; earlier rows give different affected ranges and updates. Those mappings apply to the entries in that bulletin, not to other products or releases. NVIDIA’s bulletin says, “NVIDIA recommends evaluating the risk to your specific configuration.” A CVSS score such as the bulletin’s 8.4 base score for CVE-2026-24233 describes that vulnerability’s published severity; it does not by itself establish the risk to every local deployment.

4. Inspect the live configuration and exposure
Compare the advisory’s prerequisites with the running service. Review the launch options, enabled backends and APIs, authentication settings, bind address, firewall rules and other controls that determine who can reach the affected component. A feature that is installed but disabled may not meet the advisory’s exposure conditions; do not infer that it is disabled merely because it is absent from a standard configuration example.

The llama.cpp RPC advisory identifies an issue in the RPC backend, which must be explicitly enabled and defaults to localhost. Those details make the actual launch configuration and network reachability material to the assessment. Check the project advisory index for the relevant notice, then compare its conditions with your own deployment. A service exposed beyond localhost may have a different practical exposure than one that is not reachable over a network, but configuration does not change whether the installed build falls within an advisory’s affected range.

- Choose the advisory’s fix. Upgrade to the fixed release identified for your product, branch and platform, or use only a mitigation explicitly stated by the maintainer or vendor. Do not treat a mitigation as a fixed version unless the advisory says it is one.
- Deploy the change. Follow the package or image update process for your environment. If you use a container, verify the digest of the image deployed rather than relying only on a mutable tag.
- Check the live installation again. Confirm the version, build or image digest on the running service after deployment. A corrected file or image in a registry does not prove that every instance has restarted onto it.
- Keep an assessment record. Note the advisory identifier, affected conditions reviewed, deployed build, relevant configuration evidence and verification date. Revisit the advisory if it is revised or a later notice changes the affected range or guidance.
What the result does—and does not—tell you
Call a deployment affected when its product, build and relevant conditions match the advisory. If one condition does not match, document which one and why; a product name alone is not enough to establish affected status. Likewise, a version string that appears newer is not proof that the deployed package contains the relevant fix: confirm the correct branch, package, platform and running artifact.

This process is a check against published advisories, not a guarantee that no vulnerability exists. The available examples cover NVIDIA TensorRT-LLM and llama.cpp, not every inference engine, hosted service, dependency or vendor package. For engines such as vLLM, Ollama, Triton or other runtimes, consult the current official security channel for that specific product and check advisories for its dependencies and deployment platform. No universal scanner or command is established by these sources, so do not treat an unverified scan or a clean version comparison as a substitute for advisory review.
