There is no universal rule: a game may reset all progress, preserve it, or reset progression while keeping certain purchases or rewards. Check the publisher’s latest official guidance for the exact game, and treat account progress, currencies, purchases and rewards as separate questions.
How to check the policy for your game
- Find an official source for the exact title. Look on the publisher’s support site, FAQ or news page for terms such as “soft launch,” “global launch,” “progress reset,” “data transfer” and “carry over.” A forum post or policy for another game is not proof.
- Check each type of data separately. Look for explicit answers about account and progression, levels, items, currencies, paid purchases, event rewards and compensation. A reset can affect some categories but not others.
- Confirm how your account is linked. Check whether the policy requires a publisher login, platform account, particular region or server, or a guest profile. Note any exact login instructions and deadlines for claiming retained assets.
- Save the official notice and its date. Policies or instructions can change, so check the publisher’s guidance again close to global launch.
- Ask support if the wording is unclear. Before spending money or investing substantial play time, contact the publisher and keep your receipts and player ID available.
What different publishers have done
Published policies illustrate why “soft launch” alone does not tell you what will happen. These are examples for specific games, not predictions about an unnamed title.

Make sure you are checking the right phase
Publishers may use different rules for a regional soft launch, a beta or network test, and a demo. Look for the phase named in the official notice, rather than assuming “test data” and “soft-launch progress” mean the same thing. If you are unsure, ask support whether the announcement applies to your current version and region.

What to verify before launch
- Whether account data and progression carry over, reset, or are only partly retained.
- Whether purchased items and premium currency are kept, refunded, converted or credited later.
- Whether earned items, event rewards or compensation have separate rules.
- Which account, platform, region or server you must use to access or claim retained assets.
- Whether there is a launch date, claim window or additional step, such as logging in again with a linked account.
No general statistic establishes how often soft-launch games reset progress. The publisher examples above show different outcomes; only current official guidance for your game can answer your question.
