Start with the game’s official system requirements, then compare them with the exact CPU, graphics processor, memory, operating system and free storage in your PC. For a better estimate of performance, look for benchmarks using similar hardware and the resolution and settings you plan to use. Neither a requirements match nor a compatibility checker guarantees a smooth experience or a particular frame rate.
Decide what “run well” means for you
Before comparing specifications, set a realistic target for the experience you want: your screen’s resolution, the graphics quality you prefer and the approximate frame rate you consider acceptable. There is no universal threshold for “well” established by the sources here; the right target depends on your display, the game and your preferences.

Keep that target in mind when you assess requirements and benchmark results. A test at low resolution and low settings may say little about how the same game will feel at higher resolution or with demanding effects enabled.
Check the game’s official requirements
On Steam, open the game’s store page and find System Requirements. Compare both minimum and recommended specifications, and check the supported operating systems and storage requirement. Steam advises checking hardware requirements and compatible operating systems; requirements are a starting point, not a performance promise. Steam’s system requirements guidance explains where to find them.

Steam cautions that a computer at or near a game’s listed requirements may still have performance or launch problems. Meeting the minimum does not mean the game will run at your preferred settings or frame rate. Steam’s performance troubleshooting guidance describes this uncertainty.
Identify your exact PC hardware
Record the model names rather than relying on a broad description such as “gaming laptop.” In particular, laptop and desktop versions of similarly named processors or graphics chips can differ. Check:

The mature AM4 platform with DDR4 memory offers excellent value and proven stability.
- Processor: the exact CPU model.
- Graphics: the exact GPU model and, where available, its graphics memory.
- System memory: installed RAM and how much is available while the PC is in use.
- Operating system: the version and whether the game supports it.
- Storage: the game’s required space and the free space on the drive where you would install it.
A service such as Can I Run It can help inventory hardware: its guide says its Hardware Detector can identify a PC’s components and open a compatibility form with the detected information filled in. Its game pages show minimum and recommended requirements. Treat the result as a screening estimate based on the service’s data, not as a test of the game running on your particular PC.

- POWERHOUSE 8-CORE GAMING PERFORMANCE — Driven by the AMD Ryzen 7 8700F with 8 cores and 16 threads, boosting up to 5.0 GHz for smooth, responsive gameplay and the ability to handle AAA titles, streaming, and background tasks all at once
- NEXT-GEN BLACKWELL ARCHITECTURE — The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 is powered by NVIDIA's cutting-edge Blackwell GPU architecture, delivering a massive generational leap in rasterization and ray tracing performance so you can experience your games the way they were meant to be played.
- Simplistic Design: Enjoy the latest generation of Windows 11 Home for your everyday needs. *MSI recommends Windows 11 Pro for business use.
- Cool While Gaming: In conjunction with an ARGB fan Air Cooler, the Codex R2 features four system cooling fans; three in the front and one in the rear to pull in cool air and push heat out of the PC.
- Turn on the Bright Lights: With the built-in RGB lighting, take your gaming experience to the next level by pressing the MSI LED button to cycle through lighting options. Customize lighting even further with MSI Center software.
- Hardware: compare the exact GPU and CPU models as closely as possible, along with graphics memory and system memory.
- Settings: note resolution, graphics preset and demanding options such as ray tracing or upscaling. A result at one combination of settings does not automatically apply to another.
- Frame delivery: consider average FPS and consistency when a test reports both; recurring dips can matter even if the average looks adequate.
- Test relevance: prefer the same game and, when known, a comparable game version. Game updates can change performance.

Performance depends on more than the specification line on a store page. Steam’s troubleshooting guidance notes that slow performance can stem from bugs or inefficient game code as well as hardware problems. Steam’s guidance on slow or poor performance covers software and hardware causes.

Heat and memory pressure can also contribute to slowdowns or hitches. Steam’s hardware guidance explains that overheating may require attention to cooling or ventilation, while insufficient memory can cause swapping to disk and repeated frame-rate hitches. These are possible causes to diagnose, not a reason to buy an upgrade without identifying the problem. Steam’s overheating guidance and Steam’s memory guidance provide troubleshooting context.

If you use integrated graphics and the game struggles to function, Steam’s software troubleshooting suggests trying low shader detail and windowed mode. These adjustments may help in some cases; they are not a promise of acceptable performance. Steam’s graphics troubleshooting advice discusses possible settings changes.
After buying: measure the game in play
If you already own the game, use Steam’s in-game overlay performance monitor to view FPS and system load while playing. FPS, or frames per second, is a common measure of gaming performance. Test a representative gameplay segment rather than relying on a static menu, and observe whether slow frames recur or coincide with high system load. Steam’s overlay guidance describes the performance monitor.
Real play can reveal how your own PC behaves, but it cannot turn an earlier checker result into a guarantee. For a pre-purchase decision, the strongest practical estimate comes from combining official requirements with closely matched benchmarks and your own performance target.
