Check that model’s price history, compare live offers elsewhere, then verify the seller, stock, shipping and checkout total. A crossed-out list price alone does not prove a bargain.
1. Match the exact component and variant
Start with the model name or part number, then check the details that distinguish variants, such as capacity or cooler. A lower price on a similar-looking product is not a useful comparison if it is a different version. Compare like with like before judging the discount.

2. Put the current price in context
Check the price history for that specific item. Keepa advertises Amazon price-history charts and price-drop alerts at Keepa. CamelCamelCamel documents price watches and a “Good Deal” badge in its support information. These tools can help show whether today’s price is unusual for the item; they do not guarantee that a displayed offer is still available.

Do not treat a retailer’s reference or crossed-out price as proof of the product’s normal price. PCWorld’s April 3, 2026 article explains why advertised tech discounts can look different when compared with price trackers and the wider market: “Amazon says it’s a tech ‘deal.’ Price trackers tell a different story”.
3. Compare current offers for the same part
Check other retailers for the exact model and variant. A historical low is useful context, but it does not tell you whether another seller currently has a better offer. Comparison shopping alongside price history helps distinguish a genuinely competitive price from a discount that looks impressive only against a reference price.
4. Verify what you can actually buy
Open the live listing and confirm the selected offer rather than relying on a tracker’s displayed price. Check who sells the item, whether it is in stock, and what shipping or handling adds. CamelCamelCamel’s support topics address discrepancies between displayed offer prices and shipping and handling, which can affect the buyer’s total.

Compare the final checkout amount, not just the headline price. Stock, sellers and prices can change, so confirm the offer immediately before placing an order.
5. Decide whether it is a good buy for you
A low price is not a good purchase if the part is incompatible with your system, unsuitable for your needs or something you do not need. There is no universal percentage-off threshold established for deciding whether every category of PC component is a good deal. Judge the exact part by its history, current alternatives and final cost, then weigh that against your requirements.
