To check whether a headset, controller, or charger works with your console, match the accessory’s exact model to your console’s generation and model, then verify its connection method, required adapter, supported features, and any power or regional requirements in the manufacturer’s support documentation. A matching plug or a broad “compatible” label is not enough.
Start with the exact console and accessory models
Write down the console generation and model, along with the accessory’s full model number. Check the labels on the device or packaging, or look in the console’s system information and the accessory maker’s product page. “PlayStation,” “Xbox,” or “Switch” alone may not identify the relevant generation, and products that look similar can have different compatibility.

Use the accessory manufacturer’s compatibility list or support page for that precise console. Look for conditions such as a required firmware version, licensed-product status, included wireless receiver, adapter, or limitations on games and features. If you are comparing products, check these points before relying on a retailer’s title or a connector photo.

Headsets can connect through a 3.5 mm jack on a compatible controller, USB audio, a console-specific wireless link or receiver, or Bluetooth. These methods are not interchangeable: a port’s shape does not establish that it supports audio, and Bluetooth support on a headset does not prove that a console supports that headset over Bluetooth.

- Enjoy expansive cinematic sound. Big 50 mm audio drivers deliver an incredible sound experience
- Hear Enemies From All Sides. DTS Headphone:X 2.0 surround sound(1) lets you hear enemies sneaking behind you, special ability cues, and immersive environments. It’s positional clarity that can make the difference between victory and defeat. Experience three-dimensional audio that goes beyond 7.1 channels to make you feel like you’re right in the middle of the action. (1) DTS Headphone:X 2.0 requires Logitech G HUB Software.
- Be Heard Loud and Clear. The big 6 mm boom mic makes sure you’re heard by gaming partners and mutes when flipped up.
- Use One Headset For Most Game Platforms. Your headphones work with your PC or Mac via USB DAC or 3.5 mm cable, mobile devices with 3.5 mm cable or with gaming consoles including PlayStationⓇ 5 and PlayStationⓇ 4 (USB wireless stereo sound only), Nintendo Switch (wireless stereo sound when docked)
- Game for Hours in Comfort. Everything about these headphones is about comfort: The deluxe lightweight leatherette ear cups and headband are made to keep pressure off your ears. Ear cups rotate up to 90 degrees for convenience.
- Wired 3.5 mm: Confirm that the controller has a headset jack and that the headset’s audio and microphone functions are supported through it. A working headphone connection does not guarantee that chat, microphone controls, or every other headset feature will work.
- USB: Verify that the exact headset supports the console and follow its instructions for the required USB port or setup. A console having USB ports does not by itself establish universal USB headset audio support.
- Wireless: Check whether the headset pairs directly with the console or needs a specific USB adapter or receiver. Confirm that the adapter is included or available and that it supports the audio and chat features you need.
- Bluetooth: Confirm explicit console support for the headset’s Bluetooth connection. Bluetooth capability on the headset alone is not evidence of compatibility.
PlayStation 5
PlayStation’s PS5 FAQ, published November 9, 2020, says that wireless third-party Bluetooth headsets are not supported and that most USB and analog headsets are supported. It advises: “Please consult with your headset’s manufacturer for compatibility questions.” Because that FAQ is from launch, use current support information for the exact headset before buying.
The same FAQ says that headsets connecting through a 3.5 mm jack, USB-A, or USB-C will work for 3D Audio. Treat that as the FAQ’s guidance about 3D Audio, not a guarantee that every model’s microphone, controls, chat, or other features work. PlayStation’s PS5 USB-port guide says wireless headset adapters can connect to any PS5 USB port, but that does not mean any USB headset is compatible. For example, PULSE Elite connects to PS5 using its included PlayStation Link USB adapter, which is paired with the headset out of the box; that is a product-specific setup, not a universal rule.

Xbox
Xbox describes wired headsets connecting through the 3.5 mm jack on a compatible Xbox controller, while wireless Xbox headsets pair with the console. Check the headset and controller model instructions, including whether the microphone and chat functions you want are supported. Xbox’s headset connection guidance does not establish that third-party headset audio works through any Xbox USB port, so look for an explicit compatibility statement for your model and connection method.

For a Switch headset, verify the connection method and the headset’s stated compatibility with the specific Switch generation. Do not assume compatibility with Switch 2 based on a product working with the original Switch: use Nintendo’s current cross-generation accessory compatibility information to check the particular accessory.

Check controller compatibility with both the console and the game
A controller can connect to a console yet still be unsupported in a particular game or console generation. Verify both the console compatibility and the games or software the manufacturer says it supports. Pay particular attention when using an older or third-party controller on a newer console.
For PS5, PlayStation says licensed standard-form PS4 controllers work with PS4 games played on PS5, but are not supported for PS5 games. That distinction is easy to miss when a listing says only that a controller “works on PS5.” PlayStation’s PS5 FAQ also explains that a DualSense pairs to a PS5 using the included USB cable, pairs with one PS5 console at a time, and that up to four controllers can be used at once.

Check charger, cable, port, and region separately
For a charger, compare the console or accessory’s power requirements with the adapter’s specifications, and confirm the connector, cable, device model, and country or region. Do not assume that a USB-shaped port on a dock will charge every connected accessory just because the accessory can charge by USB elsewhere.

Nintendo says the Switch console is compatible with its AC adapter, model HAC-002. Nintendo Support estimates that the console takes approximately three hours to charge fully; that figure is for the console, not for controllers or other accessories. For an alternative charging solution, Nintendo directs users to check the console’s stated power requirements and use an adapter approved for their country. See Nintendo’s Switch charging guidance.
Charging a Pro Controller or Joy-Con Charging Grip
A dock USB port and direct connection to an AC adapter can behave differently. Nintendo’s dock troubleshooting guidance lists the Pro Controller, Joy-Con Charging Grip, Nintendo Switch LAN Adapter, and GameCube Controller Adapter as compatible dock devices. It also notes that a Pro Controller or Charging Grip may charge from the AC adapter but fail to charge through a dock USB port.
Nintendo identifies USB charging cable HAC-010 as the cable supplied with the Pro Controller or Charging Grip. If that cable is damaged and the accessory does not charge, Nintendo says replacing it with the original cable will likely resolve the issue. Confirm the accessory model and follow Nintendo’s instructions rather than assuming any replacement cable will work.
Quick Recap
Use a model-by-model checklist before buying
- Record both model numbers: Identify the console generation and exact model, then the accessory’s exact model.
- Confirm the connection: Match the actual method—controller jack, USB, wireless pairing, receiver, or Bluetooth—to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Check what is included: Verify whether a receiver, adapter, cable, or other required part is included or must be purchased separately.
- Check features and restrictions: Look for microphone/chat support, game-generation limits, licensing, firmware requirements, and any other stated feature conditions.
- For charging, compare power details: Check required power, connector and cable, dock versus direct-adapter behavior, and regional approval.
- Get confirmation if unclear: Send the console or accessory maker both exact model numbers and ask whether the complete setup is supported. If neither manufacturer can confirm it, review the seller’s return policy before purchase.
