To verify a game’s current launch date, find the newest dated announcement on the developer’s or publisher’s official website or verified social account, then cross-check that date on the storefront for your platform and region. Record the old date, replacement date, announcement date, platform, edition and release phase. Treat third-party calendars as discovery tools, not proof.
The reliable answer in one minute
A search result, retailer listing or release-calendar entry can be stale. The strongest evidence is a recent, dated notice from the game’s publisher or developer. A genuine delay notice usually identifies the previous date and the replacement date. After finding it, open the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Nintendo eShop, Steam or Epic Games Store listing that applies to your account and region. Storefront metadata is a useful second check, but it may describe a platform-specific date rather than the game’s overall launch.

Write down five details before deciding that a date changed:
- The date announced most recently.
- The date it replaced, if the notice states one.
- The date the notice was published.
- The affected platform, region and edition.
- Whether it covers early access, a demo, a full release or version 1.0.
Keep the announcement link in your notes. A short history prevents an older article from being mistaken for the current plan when a game moves more than once.

Why a release date can look different in different places
There is not always one universal launch date. A publisher can announce a date for one console while a PC version remains scheduled separately. A deluxe edition may unlock earlier than the standard edition. A game can enter paid early access months before its version 1.0 release, and a demo can appear on a storefront without changing the full launch.
Platform scope
Always identify the hardware or store named in the notice. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Steam and the Epic Games Store may have different dates. A change affecting PC does not automatically move a console version, and an update for one console generation may not apply to another.
Region and time zone
Storefronts can display a local calendar date even when the publisher gives one global launch moment. Check the country set on your account and note whether the announcement names a worldwide release or a regional rollout. If two dates differ by one day, a time-zone conversion may explain the difference rather than a delay.
Edition and release phase
Look for labels such as standard edition, deluxe edition, early access, open beta, demo, preview build and version 1.0. The date for an early-access build is not the date for the finished release. A version 1.0 delay can leave an already playable early-access build available.
Which sources deserve the most trust?
| Source | Best use | What to verify | Reliability limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Publisher or developer news page | Confirming a date change and its reason | Publication date, old date, new date, platform and release phase | An old post may remain highly visible in search results. |
| Verified publisher or developer social account | Finding urgent changes or short launch updates | Verified account identity, timestamp and a link to fuller details | Short posts may omit region, edition or platform scope. |
| Platform storefront | Checking the date for your account, platform and region | Store country, edition, access time and whether the listing says early access or 1.0 | Store metadata can lag behind a newly announced change. |
| Platform support documentation | Learning where that platform publishes release information | Whether the guidance applies to your country and store | General guidance does not confirm a particular game’s date. |
| Third-party calendar, retailer or database | Discovering that an announcement may exist | Every detail against an official notice and your storefront | Listings can be user-submitted, estimated or left unchanged after a delay. |
Nintendo Support states: “A game’s release date can be found on Nintendo eShop or on the official Nintendo website.” That is a useful model for other platforms: use the official store and the platform holder’s own information, then confirm the publisher’s latest announcement.
Step-by-step: verify a date change
1. Search the official news archive first
- Open the game’s official website or the publisher’s site.
- Use its news, announcements or media section and search the game title with terms such as delay, launch, release date, schedule or version 1.0.
- Sort by newest where the site allows it. Read the publication date on the page, not only the date shown in a search result.
- Look for explicit before-and-after language. A notice that says the date is moving from one day to another is stronger evidence than a page that merely repeats a date.
Next, check the publisher or developer’s verified social accounts. Treat a social post as a lead when it links to a full announcement; record the post’s timestamp and make sure the account is official.
2. Compare the notice with your saved date
Open your previous note, bookmark or spreadsheet entry. Compare the old date, new date and announcement date. If you never saved the previous date, do not infer it from a random article; search the official archive for the last dated schedule and label any uncertainty in your notes.

3. Check the correct storefront
- Sign in to the store account and country you will use to play.
- Search the exact game and select the correct edition.
- Read the date shown near the purchase or wishlist controls. Expand the product details if the page separates early access from full launch.
- Check the listed platform. A PC date on Steam does not establish a PlayStation 5 date.
If the storefront and announcement disagree, the dated publisher notice explains the intended change while the storefront shows what the platform currently has loaded. Save both observations and check again after the platform has had time to update.
4. Capture the release scope
Write a complete entry instead of a bare date. For example: “September 17, 2026; price-revision edition; platform not stated in the notice; announcement published July 21, 2026.” Add the region and release phase whenever the source provides them. This prevents a date for a special edition from being applied accidentally to the standard version.
5. Recheck close to launch
A scheduled date is a plan, not a guarantee. Revisit the official news page and verified social channels during the final weeks, then open the storefront again. Watch for operational changes such as a pre-load date, a regional unlock time, a certification delay or a last-minute hotfix announcement.
Examples of how to read real announcements
Hogwarts Legacy price-revision edition
A SEGA notice published July 21, 2026 changed the planned date from August 27, 2026 to September 17, 2026 for the price-revision edition of Hogwarts Legacy. The useful evidence is the explicit old-to-new change and the notice date. Do not automatically apply September 17 to every edition or platform unless the notice says it does; record the edition named in the announcement.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Directive 8020
Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe announced May 12, 2026 for Directive 8020 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Steam. The platform list is part of the date, so a reader checking another platform should not broaden that announcement beyond its stated scope.
Towerborne
Xbox Wire listed February 26, 2026 as Towerborne’s full launch date and identified the participating platforms. Because the wording describes a full launch, it should not be confused with an earlier preview or early-access milestone.
No Rest for the Wicked
The official notice said: “No Rest for the Wicked’s 1.0 launch is moving from October 2026 to March 2027.” This is a version 1.0 delay, not necessarily a statement that every existing build becomes unavailable. The same notice said the team would continue communicating through official social channels, making those channels the appropriate place to watch for another update.

Platform-by-platform checking
PlayStation 5
Use the PlayStation Store listing for the country on your console or web account. Confirm whether the date belongs to the PS5 product, a cross-generation bundle or a special edition. If the publisher announcement names PS5 together with other platforms, retain that exact list in your change log.

Xbox Series X|S
Check the Microsoft Store listing and compare it with Xbox Wire or the publisher’s announcement. Look for a distinction between a console launch, a PC launch and access through a subscription. A subscription availability date can differ from the retail release date.
Nintendo Switch
Search the Nintendo eShop in your account’s region and the official Nintendo website. Nintendo’s support guidance specifically directs players to those two places for a game’s release date. Check whether the listing is for Switch, a successor-platform version, a demo or downloadable content rather than the complete game.
PC
Use the store named by the announcement, such as Steam or the Epic Games Store. A publisher may announce PC generally while only one store page has a populated date. Record the store, operating-system requirements shown on the listing and whether the date is for early access or version 1.0.

How to resolve conflicting dates
The official notice is newer than the storefront
Use the notice as the evidence of the announced change, but label the storefront as not yet updated. Recheck later and avoid treating the old store date as a separate launch unless the publisher confirms one.

The storefront is newer than the news archive
Look for a platform-specific update or a short verified social post. Storefront metadata can change without a prominent article, but a silent change should not be described as a confirmed delay until an official source explains it.
Two official channels show different dates
Compare publication timestamps and scope. The later post may apply to one region, edition or platform. If the scope remains unclear, report both facts rather than collapsing them into one global date, and continue watching for clarification.

Common mistakes and their fixes
- Relying on a search snippet: Open the dated page because snippets often preserve an old date.
- Ignoring the edition: Record standard, deluxe, price-revision or collector edition explicitly.
- Confusing early access with 1.0: Read the release-phase wording and check the product description.
- Checking the wrong region: Match the store country to the account that will play the game.
- Assuming one platform controls all others: Copy the platform list from the announcement and verify each storefront separately.
- Deleting the old date: Preserve it with the announcement date so the delay is auditable.
- Stopping after one confirmation: Recheck official channels near launch because a date can move again.
A practical monitoring routine
For a game you plan to buy, bookmark the official news page, follow only verified publisher or developer accounts and add a reminder for the expected launch month. Check at three useful points: after any rumor, when the publisher posts a schedule, and during the final weeks before release. Each check should repeat the same sequence—official notice, scope, storefront and change log—so a new date cannot be mistaken for an old one.
When sharing an update with someone else, include the announcement date and scope in the first sentence. “The PS5 standard edition is scheduled for [date] according to the publisher’s notice dated [date]” is more useful than a bare calendar date, because it tells the reader exactly what was verified.
What a trustworthy launch update contains
A reliable update answers six questions: What game is this? What is the newest date? Which date did it replace? When was the change announced? Which platform, region and edition does it cover? Is it early access, a demo or version 1.0? If one answer is unavailable, say “not stated” rather than filling the gap with a guess. That discipline is what keeps a launch tracker accurate when schedules change repeatedly.
