To check whether a Fortnite cosmetic will work for you, first make sure you are using the Epic Games account that owns it, then check whether that type of item is supported in the Fortnite experience you want to play. Fortnite’s general cosmetic rules are not a guarantee that every item works in every mode, island, or on every device. Epic says purchases and progress can be accessed across linked platforms, while its cosmetic compatibility guide lists which item types work in each experience.
What “available on my platform” can mean
The question can refer to different things. A cosmetic may be owned by your Epic Games account but not appear on a different account; it may appear in your Locker but not be usable in a particular experience; or it may be compatible but not currently for sale. Check ownership, experience compatibility, and shop availability separately.

- Device support: Can Fortnite run on the device?
- Account ownership: Is the device’s platform account linked to the Epic Games account where the item was obtained?
- Experience compatibility: Can that cosmetic type be used in the specific Fortnite experience or island?
- Current sale status: Is the item in the Item Shop or an official promotion now?
Check ownership and account linking
- On the device where the item is missing, identify the Epic Games account currently used in Fortnite.
- Confirm that the console, mobile, or other platform account is linked to the same Epic account that owns the cosmetic. Epic’s account-sharing guidance says items are shared between platforms linked to the same Epic Games account.
- Open Fortnite’s Locker and search for the item. If it is absent, check whether you obtained it using another Epic account; being the same person or using devices in the same household does not combine account inventories.
Items stay on the Epic account where they were purchased, earned, or claimed. Epic does not support trading items between Fortnite accounts, so linking a platform account to a different Epic account does not move the cosmetic. See Epic’s item-trading guidance.

Once the item is visible in the Locker, identify its type—such as Outfit, Emote, Back Bling, Pickaxe, Vehicle, Jam Track, or LEGO Kit—and compare it with the experience you plan to enter. Epic’s live compatibility table covers Battle Royale, Save the World, LEGO Fortnite Odyssey, Rocket Racing, Fortnite Festival, and developer-made islands. Epic’s summary is that “most are not compatible with every experience,” so do not treat a Locker listing as universal permission to equip an item everywhere.

The table is organized by cosmetic type and experience, not by console or device. A restriction in one experience does not by itself show that the cosmetic is a PlayStation-, Switch-, or PC-exclusive item. Because Epic can update experience names and compatibility, consult the current table rather than relying on a remembered matrix.
Look for a rating-restriction icon
Epic says a small portion of Outfits and accessories are limited by island rating thresholds. For affected items, an icon appears in the Locker and Item Shop. That warning concerns the island’s content-rating threshold; it does not necessarily mean the cosmetic is incompatible with your device or console.

Separate device support from cosmetic support
If Fortnite itself is unavailable on a device, that is different from a cosmetic restriction. Epic’s supported-platforms page lists platform families including PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch (including Switch 2), Android, and iOS/iPadOS. Check the current page for supported devices; platform support does not establish that every cosmetic can be used in every Fortnite experience.

Do not mistake a V-Bucks balance for item ownership
A different V-Bucks balance across devices does not necessarily mean an owned cosmetic failed to transfer. Epic says items are shared across platforms linked to the same Epic account, but currency has separate rules. Epic’s V-Bucks guidance says V-Bucks purchased on Nintendo Switch are not shared with other platforms and cannot be used in the Fortnite Web Shop; purchased currency may be platform-locked, while earned currency is shared under the page’s stated conditions. The guidance also describes a Korea-specific restriction for V-Bucks purchased on PC. Check Epic’s current details for the relevant region and purchase type. Epic says items bought with V-Bucks are available on platforms where you play Fortnite.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

Check today’s shop separately
Compatibility rules do not tell you whether a particular cosmetic is currently available to buy. Search the live Item Shop or the official promotion associated with that item. Without a specific cosmetic and a current shop check, its sale status cannot be determined from general compatibility guidance.

If the cosmetic still seems unavailable
- It is missing from the Locker: Verify the Epic account first, then check whether the item belongs to another Epic account. Items cannot be transferred by trading.
- It appears but cannot be equipped: Check the compatibility table for the item type and experience, then look for a rating-restriction icon.
- Only the V-Bucks balance differs: Check where the currency was purchased and the regional rules; do not infer that the cosmetic itself is missing.
- You want to buy it: Check the current Item Shop or relevant official promotion, since current stock is a separate question.
