On many Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets, open Settings > Device care or Battery and device care, then tap Storage. The screen shows how storage is used by category; tap a category to inspect it. Menu names and screens vary by model and software version.

Samsung documents this route in its Device Care guide and Galaxy device status and diagnostics instructions. Settings and category names can differ across models and software versions.

Open the optional Advanced view
On some interfaces, the Storage screen has an options menu with an Advanced view. Open the Storage options menu and tap Advanced if it is available to see more information about storage in use. Samsung’s UK Device Care guide documents this route; it may not appear on every Galaxy device.
Find large or unnecessary files
Use My Files to inspect downloads
Open My Files and review folders such as Downloads. Samsung’s file-management guide also describes using My Files to identify duplicate files. Check what a file is and whether you still need it before deleting it.

Understand the Other category
Other is not one folder that you can delete as a whole. Samsung says it can include installed-app data, system files, cached data, and temporary files that do not fit another category. To review an app’s storage, go to Settings > Apps > [app] > Storage. Samsung’s explanation of Other storage distinguishes clearing cache from clearing data: cache is temporary data, while clearing data removes the app’s stored data. Use Clear cache or Clear data only after checking what you may lose. Clearing data for an app you use often can make it run more slowly.
