To check what is waiting to print, open the queue for the printer you selected when you sent the document. In Windows 11, go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, select the printer, then choose Open print queue. On a Mac, open Print Centre from the Dock or use System Settings > Printers & Scanners. Check the printer name in the queue before deciding a job is missing.
What the print queue shows
A print queue is the list of jobs waiting for a particular printer. It can help you see whether a document is pending, printing, paused, or stuck. An empty Windows queue means there are no pending jobs waiting in that printer’s queue; it does not mean a job sent to a different printer will appear there.

Check the print queue in Windows
Windows 11
- Open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the printer you used for the document.
- Select Open print queue.
- Check the printer name and review the listed jobs. If you see no entries, that queue has no pending jobs.
To view a different printer’s jobs, use the queue window’s Printers menu to switch queues. Microsoft documents these steps in View a printer’s print queue in Windows.

If a job is missing or stuck
The job is not in the queue
First check that you opened the printer selected when you sent the document. If your computer has more than one printer configured, inspect the other queues too; the job may have been sent to a different printer. Apple specifically recommends checking other printer queues when you cannot find a job.

A Windows job is frozen
Start by opening the intended queue and cancel only jobs you mean to remove. Microsoft’s troubleshooting guidance also includes restarting the Print Spooler service when it is not running or jobs remain frozen. This is a troubleshooting step, not something required just to view the queue. See Fix print spooler service not running errors in Windows and Troubleshooting offline printer problems in Windows.
A Mac job is paused or blocking other work
In the queue, resume a paused printer or individual job. If a job is blocking the queue, delete that job only if you are sure you no longer need it. If printing still fails, check the printer itself for paper, jams, and supplies. Apple’s Mac printing troubleshooting guide covers these actions.
