To verify Find Hub, turn on Android Location, enable Settings > Security > Find Hub > Allow device to be located, choose the intended option under Settings > Google > All Services (if shown) > Find Hub > Find your offline devices, and confirm that the phone appears in Find Hub at android.com/find. These checks confirm configuration and account visibility. They cannot guarantee that another Android device will detect your phone while it is offline.
What this check can establish
A Find Hub check answers three practical questions:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Is the phone’s location service enabled?
- Is Find Hub allowed to locate the phone under the Google Account you use?
- Is offline finding configured to store recent locations and, if selected, participate in Google’s crowdsourced Android network?
Seeing the phone in the Find Hub app or on android.com/find adds a fourth confirmation: Find Hub recognizes that device under the account you selected. It still does not prove that a live location will be available after the phone loses connectivity. An offline result can be only the last location saved while the phone was online, and network-based finding depends on nearby participating Android devices detecting it.

Google notes that some setup instructions apply only to Android 14 and later. If a menu is named differently or appears in another section, use the manufacturer’s current instructions rather than assuming the setting is missing. A manufacturer may place Google services in a separate settings page, and a phone can show service tabs differently from the path above.

Check the account and phone profile first
Confirm the Google Account
Open Settings > Passwords, passkeys and accounts and verify that the Google Account you expect to use with Find Hub is present. If the phone has multiple user profiles, perform the check from the account on the main profile. A secondary profile can make the wrong account appear to be missing the device even when the phone itself is configured correctly.
Write down which account you are checking before opening Find Hub. When you later use the app or website, sign in with that same account; a different account can show an empty device list without indicating a settings failure. This is especially easy to miss when a work account, family account, or an older personal account is also signed in.
Keep the phone available while checking
For the initial verification, leave the phone powered on and connected to mobile data or Wi-Fi. Those conditions let Find Hub refresh the device’s current state. They are not a universal requirement for every offline-finding mode, but they remove avoidable causes of a stale listing while you are testing the configuration.

An offline check cannot force a nearby Android device to detect the phone. First verify the configuration while the phone is online, then interpret any offline result according to the mode you selected.
Step-by-step settings check
- Enable Location. Open Settings > Location and turn on Use location. Android may then make the phone’s location available to other apps and services according to the device’s location controls. Review those controls if you do not want every location-capable app to have the same access.
- Allow Find Hub to locate the device. Open Settings > Security > Find Hub. Turn on Allow device to be located. This is the device-level permission that lets Find Hub associate the phone with its location.
- Choose an offline-finding mode. Go to Settings > Google > All Services. On phones that show service tabs, open the relevant tab first, then choose Find Hub > Find your offline devices. Read the selected option rather than assuming that merely opening the page enables network finding.
- Use a screen lock. Set a PIN, pattern, or password if the phone does not already have one. Google says the Find Hub network needs this screen lock to help the owner find the owner’s offline items. Biometric unlock by itself does not replace the underlying PIN, pattern, or password requirement.
- Check the online device list. Open the Find Hub app or visit android.com/find, sign in with the phone’s Google Account, and confirm that the device appears. Select the device to see whether Find Hub can retrieve its current or most recent location.
- Check Google Play visibility. In Google Play’s device list, make sure Show In Menus is selected for this phone. Google says a device hidden from Google Play will not be findable through Find Hub, even if other settings appear correct.
Complete these steps in order. The first four establish the phone’s local configuration; the last two check whether Google’s account and device records can see it. If the phone appears in Find Hub while it is online, record what the map labels as the current location before experimenting with offline states.
Understand the four offline-finding choices
The setting under Find your offline devices controls both encrypted recent-location storage and participation in the crowdsourced network. Select the behavior that matches your privacy and recovery needs.
| Mode | Encrypted recent locations | Participates in network | Where network finding is intended to help |
|---|---|---|---|
| Off | Not stored | No | No network assistance |
| Without network | Stored while the phone is online | No | Stored locations may help locate the phone later |
| With network in busy places only | Stored | Yes | Busy locations such as airports or crowded footpaths |
| With network everywhere | Stored | Yes | Busy and remote areas, including situations in which the phone may be the only nearby reporting device |
Off
With Off selected, Find Hub does not retain encrypted recent locations for this purpose and the phone does not participate in the offline-finding network. The phone can still be listed in Find Hub when other requirements are met, but there is no offline network assistance from this setting.

Without network
Without network keeps encrypted recent locations made while the phone was online, but the phone does not report detections for the crowdsourced network. This can provide a previous location without asking nearby Android devices to help locate the phone. It is therefore different from turning all Find Hub features off: account visibility may remain, but no crowdsourced detection is expected.
With network in busy places only
This option stores recent locations and allows network finding in places where many Android devices are likely to be nearby, such as an airport or a busy walking route. Google’s privacy explanation says reports in this mode are aggregated from multiple nearby Android devices. A phone lost in a quiet rural area may therefore produce only its last online location, even when this setting is enabled.
With network everywhere
This option extends network assistance to busy and remote areas. Google says it can help even when the lost phone is the only nearby device reporting a detection. The broader coverage may be useful for a phone that travels outside dense public areas, but it is still dependent on supported hardware, enabled settings, and actual detections. Selecting it changes the intended coverage; it does not create a guaranteed signal or a guaranteed update.
How to read the result in Find Hub
The phone is online
If the device is powered on and connected, Find Hub may display its current location. The map result shows that the account, device record, and location service are communicating at that moment. It is the strongest routine configuration check, but it does not simulate a lost phone with no connection.

The phone is offline
Find Hub may display the last location saved while the phone was online. Treat that as a historical point, not proof that the phone remains there. A last-known location can be useful for retracing steps, but it does not demonstrate that a nearby Android device has just detected the phone.
If a new point does appear while the phone is offline, the result still depends on the selected mode, compatible hardware, and a detection by participating devices. The map alone does not tell you that every requirement would work again in a different location.
No device appears
An empty list usually points to an account or visibility problem before it points to an offline-network problem. Recheck the Google Account, the main profile, the phone’s power state, and Google Play’s Show In Menus setting. Then return to the local settings and confirm that Allow device to be located is enabled.

What a successful check proves—and what it cannot prove
A successful review of the switches proves that Location, Find Hub permission, and the selected offline mode are configured as intended. A visible device in the app or website proves that Find Hub recognizes the phone under that account. Those are configuration and account-visibility results.
Recommended Free Tools
They do not guarantee an offline fix. Network finding requires the selected mode, a supported phone, the required screen lock, and detection by participating Android devices. A phone in an area with few participating devices may not produce a new network location even when every setting is correct. Google’s setup guidance does not provide a controlled procedure that guarantees an on-demand offline detection.
For that reason, avoid describing a last-online point as a live “test result.” The honest conclusion after a settings review is that the phone is configured for the chosen behavior and is visible to the account. Actual recovery performance remains dependent on conditions outside the settings screen.
Can Find Hub locate a phone after shutdown?
Some supported devices, including the Pixel 8 series, can remain findable for several hours after shutdown or battery depletion. Google describes this as hardware-dependent. For the behavior to work, select With network in busy places only or With network everywhere and leave Bluetooth and Location enabled before the phone shuts down.
Do not generalize that behavior to every Android phone. A settings check can confirm that the relevant options are selected, but only the manufacturer and model support information can establish whether a particular phone keeps participating after power loss. A phone that lacks this hardware support may stop providing new detections when it shuts down, even though its last encrypted location remains useful.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Troubleshoot “Sync recent location” and “Can’t access location”
If Find Hub shows Sync recent location or Can’t access location, use this sequence rather than repeatedly refreshing the map.
- Start a manual sync. In Find Hub, select the affected device and tap Sync recent location. Complete the screen-lock or Google Account prompt if Find Hub requests it.
- Resolve an account action. If the location does not update, inspect the phone for an Account action required notification. Follow that notification, return to Find Hub, and refresh the device list.
- Reset the offline-mode selection. If the device still reports Can’t access location, note the current choice under Find your offline devices. Temporarily select Off, restore the option you noted, and complete any sign-in or screen-lock prompt. Return to Find Hub and refresh.
- Recheck identity and visibility. Confirm that the phone uses the expected Google Account, that you are checking the main profile, and that the device is visible in Google Play with Show In Menus selected.
- Confirm basic operating conditions. For the online check, make sure the phone is powered, has mobile data or Wi-Fi, and has Location enabled. These conditions allow Find Hub to obtain a fresh state instead of relying on an old record.
If the error remains after this sequence, the settings may be correct while the phone is unable to provide a current location. An offline network result cannot be forced from the Find Hub screen. Do not erase the phone or change accounts simply because a manual sync is delayed; first complete the identity, notification, and mode-reset steps above.

Do not confuse offline finding with remote secure or erase controls
Google’s requirements for remote secure or erase actions include a powered phone, mobile data or Wi-Fi, a Google Account, Find Hub enabled, and visibility in Google Play. Those requirements describe remote actions that must reach the phone.
They are not prerequisites for every offline-location result. Offline finding can use encrypted locations saved earlier or detections from nearby participating Android devices when the phone itself is not connected. A phone that cannot receive a remote command may still have a usable last-known or network-detected location, depending on its mode and hardware.
Privacy and practical trade-offs
Turning on Location can make the phone’s location available to other apps and services under Android’s permissions model. Check app-level location access if that matters to you.
The offline modes also differ in how much network participation you permit. Without network keeps recent locations without crowdsourced detection. The two network modes permit nearby Android devices to contribute detections, with busy places only focusing on dense areas and everywhere extending assistance to remote locations. In all cases, the owner-side network lookup depends on the screen lock and encrypted data protections described by Google.
Choosing a more private mode is not the same as disabling Find Hub completely. It changes whether recent locations are retained and whether the phone contributes to the network. Record your choice if you are troubleshooting so that a temporary reset to Off can be restored accurately.
Applying Find Hub to keys, a wallet, or another item
Find Hub can also work with compatible tracker tags attached to items such as keys or a wallet. Compatibility varies by tag and device, so check the tag’s stated Find Hub support before buying. Adding a tag is separate from validating the phone’s own Location, account, and offline-finding settings; a tag does not prove that the phone is configured correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I check if Find Hub can find my phone offline?
Turn on Location, enable Allow device to be located, choose an option under Find your offline devices, set a PIN, pattern, or password, and confirm the phone appears in Find Hub under the same Google Account. These checks verify configuration and visibility, but they cannot guarantee a network detection while the phone is offline.

Why does Find Hub say “Sync recent location”?
Select the device and tap Sync recent location, completing any screen-lock or Google Account prompt. If it still does not update, follow an Account action required notification, then temporarily switch the offline-finding setting to Off, restore the previous choice, and refresh.
Does Find Hub work when my phone is turned off?
Only some supported devices provide powered-off finding. Google says Pixel 8 series phones may remain findable for several hours after shutdown or battery depletion when an appropriate network mode is selected and Bluetooth and Location were on. This behavior is hardware-dependent.
What does “Without network” mean?
It stores encrypted recent locations made while the phone is online but does not let the phone participate in the crowdsourced finding network. A stored previous location may still help later.
Why is my phone missing from Find Hub?
First verify that you are signed in with the phone’s Google Account and checking the main profile. Then confirm the phone is powered, Find Hub is enabled, and Google Play shows the device with Show In Menus selected. A hidden Google Play device will not be findable through Find Hub.
Is a last location proof that my phone is still there?
No. When the phone is offline, Find Hub may show the last location saved while it was online. That point is historical unless a later network detection updates it.
The Bottom Line
For a reliable configuration check, verify Location, Allow device to be located, the intended offline mode, a screen lock, the correct Google Account, and Google Play visibility. Seeing the phone in Find Hub confirms account visibility—not guaranteed offline detection. Last-online locations and powered-off finding are conditional on the mode, participating devices, and phone hardware.
