To check how much RAM Windows reports from Command Prompt, run systeminfo. For per-module capacity and speed, call a PowerShell CIM query from CMD; for a browsable hardware and software overview, launch msinfo32.
Check your computer’s RAM with systeminfo
Open Command Prompt, type systeminfo, and press Enter. Microsoft documents this command as displaying computer and operating-system configuration, including hardware properties such as RAM. The output is a general system report, not a per-module inventory. Microsoft’s systeminfo reference also documents alternate output formats and remote-computer queries.

- Open Command Prompt.
- Enter
systeminfoand press Enter. - Review the memory-related information in the resulting system report. Labels and details can vary across Windows versions and devices.
To change the report layout, use systeminfo /fo LIST for list format or systeminfo /fo CSV for comma-separated output. The reported installed-memory information answers how much RAM Windows reports for the computer; it should not be read as the amount currently available to applications.

Check RAM speed and module capacity from CMD
If you want selected details for individual physical memory modules, run this PowerShell CIM query from Command Prompt:
#1 Best Overall
- Disclaimer: Maximum Speed requires overclocking/PC BIOS adjustments. Maximum speed and performance depend on system components, including motherboard and CPU
- Hand-sorted memory chips ensure high performance with generous overclocking headroom
- VENGEANCE LPX is optimized for wide compatibility with the latest Intel and AMD DDR4 motherboards
- A low-profile height of just 34mm ensures that VENGEANCE LPX even fits in most small-form-factor builds
- A solid aluminum heatspreader efficiently dissipates heat from each module so that they consistently run at high clock speeds
powershell -c "Get-CimInstance Win32_PhysicalMemory | Select-Object Capacity, Speed"
The query asks Windows for each module’s reported capacity and speed. Returned values depend on what the Windows build, hardware, and firmware expose; this is not a test of whether memory is working correctly. Microsoft identifies PowerShell as the migration path for WMI tasks as the older WMIC utility is phased out. See Microsoft’s WMIC reference and Microsoft’s WMIC removal guidance.

Open a fuller hardware report with msinfo32
For a browsable overview rather than a command-line output, enter msinfo32 in Command Prompt and press Enter. It opens Windows System Information, which presents hardware, system components, and software categories. Microsoft’s msinfo32 documentation describes the command and its report.

Older instructions often use commands such as wmic memorychip. WMIC is a legacy command-line utility: Microsoft marked the utility deprecated beginning with Windows 10 version 21H1, while clarifying that this does not mean WMI itself was deprecated. Microsoft Support states that “The WMIC utility has been removed from currently supported versions of Windows 11.” Its guidance describes removal in the August 2026 preview update for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2, and in the September 2026 preview update for version 26H1; availability can vary with Windows version and update channel. Use the PowerShell query above rather than assuming a WMIC recipe is present on every current installation.

- G.SKILL RipjawsV Series DDR4 U-DIMM Memory Kit, Model: F4-3200C16D-16GVKB
- Non-ECC, DDR4 U-DIMM, 288-pin, for Desktop PC & Gaming
- Includes JEDEC default profile, and Intel XMP memory overclock profile
- Do not mix memory kits. Memory kits are sold in matched kits that are designed to run together as a set. Mixing memory kits will result in stability issues or system failure.
