Find the current report and the right player
- Open the NFL injury report, the league’s central page for current player injury and status listings.
- Select the relevant week and matchup, then locate the player’s row. Use the current report rather than a search-result snippet or an older article; the report can change as clubs file updates.
- Read the injury, Practice Status, and Game Status fields as separate pieces of information. If Game Status is blank, do not translate the blank into Questionable, Doubtful, or Out.
The report is time-sensitive, so a page or article checked earlier in the week may not reflect the latest update for a game.

Understand game status versus practice status
Game Status
NFL policy defines the designations this way: Questionable means it is uncertain whether the player will play; Doubtful means the player is unlikely to participate; and Out means the player will not play. The league’s revised game-status categories removed Probable. See the NFL policy announcement.
Practice Status
Did Not Participate, Limited Participation, and Full Participation describe practice participation. They are not game-availability promises. The league distinguishes practice reporting from game-status reporting; treat the fields separately rather than inferring a game designation from practice alone. The 2017 NFL Injury Report Policy provides historical context for that distinction, but it is a historical document and should not be read as confirmation that every procedural detail remains current.
Check the inactive list close to kickoff
The inactive list is a later game-day check than the weekly injury designation. NFL Support says players are designated inactive about 90 minutes before scheduled kickoff. NFL Football Operations describes an officials’ meeting 90 minutes before kickoff at which club representatives deliver the inactive list. This is an approximate operational window, not a guarantee of an exact posting second.
- Reopen the current week’s report as kickoff approaches.
- Check the team’s latest announcement and the game-day inactive list, particularly if the player’s availability affects your decision.
- Use the inactive-list result as the later check; do not treat an earlier Questionable or Doubtful designation as a substitute for it.

When two updates differ, prioritize the one that is official, newer, and closer to kickoff. Also make sure you are comparing like with like: practice participation is not game status, and a weekly designation is not the final inactive list.
