Some entries may show size information, and your Windows build may offer a way to sort by installation date. For a broader view of storage use, open Settings > System > Storage. A date shown beside an app is a date Windows reports; it does not by itself prove when the app was first installed.
Find the installed-app list
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the app you want to inspect and review the information displayed in its entry.
Microsoft documents this Settings route for viewing installed apps and programs: Uninstall or remove apps and programs in Windows. The fields shown can vary: not every app entry is guaranteed to include a size or date.

Check an app’s displayed size
Look at the individual entry on the Installed apps page. If Windows displays a size for that app, it is the per-app figure available in Settings. If no size appears, the page does not provide a value there for that entry; do not assume the app uses no storage.

- On Settings > Apps > Installed apps, look for the Sort by control.
- If your Windows build offers an installation-date option, select it to arrange the list by the date Windows reports.
This sorting option is described in a secondary guide dated August 10, 2026, but is not documented in the Microsoft pages cited here. Its availability or wording may differ by Windows build. A displayed date is not reliable proof of an app’s first-ever installation: its meaning can depend on how the app is packaged or serviced, and a uniform interpretation for every app type is not established.

See how apps fit into overall storage use
For a category-level view, open Settings > System > Storage. Microsoft says Storage settings provide a detailed view of storage use, with categories including Installed apps, Temporary files and System & reserved: Manage drive space with Storage Sense and Free up drive space in Windows.
| Settings view | What it helps you check |
|---|---|
| Apps > Installed apps | Individual app entries and any per-app information Windows displays. |
| System > Storage | Storage use grouped into categories, including Installed apps, Temporary files, and System & reserved. |
The category total is useful for judging whether apps are a substantial part of storage use, but the sources cited here do not establish that it must equal the sum of the sizes visible in individual app entries.

- Multitasking is easy with 16GB of RAM
- Equipped with a blazing fast Core i5 2.00 GHz processor.
If the PC is low on space
Checking app entries does not require external storage. If you need to free space, Microsoft’s guidance includes moving personal files to an external storage device such as a USB drive or SD card; an external device can also help make room when Windows needs space for a feature update. See Microsoft’s free-up-space guidance.
