If you see a PlayStation charge you do not recognize, check Transaction History first, then secure your account and request help through PlayStation Support. A charge is not automatically refundable: eligibility depends on the purchase type, region, and circumstances.
Check which PlayStation account made the purchase
Sign in to Account Management, open Transaction History, choose a date range, and select the transaction to view its details. PlayStation’s guide says the default web history covers the previous two years. Some transactions show a Request Refund option.

You can also check from a console or the app:
- PS5: Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Transaction History. Choose the account and select a transaction. Only the family manager can view family members’ transaction histories.
- PS4: Settings > Account Management > Account Information > Wallet > Transaction History, then scan the QR code.
- PlayStation App: Open the PlayStation Store tab, open the menu, then select Transaction History.
If the payment card or other payment method is linked to multiple PlayStation accounts, check each account’s history. A transaction on one account will not necessarily be visible in another account’s records.
Rule out recurring fees, family purchases, and duplicates
Before treating an unfamiliar bank entry as fraud, compare it with the transaction details and consider these common explanations:
#1 Best Overall
- Redeem for anything on PlayStationStore: games, add-ons, PlayStationPlus and more.
- Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
- Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.
- A subscription renewal: Check subscription settings to see whether a recurring charge was due.
- A child family member’s purchase: Under the US Terms of Service, child accounts do not have separate wallets; associated purchases use the family manager’s wallet. Check family transaction history if you manage the family group.
- A duplicate purchase: Look for another transaction for the same content or service.
PlayStation’s family-wallet explanation is specific to its US terms; account and consumer rules may differ by region. If these checks do not explain the charge, use PlayStation’s support route for unauthorized transactions.
Secure the account if someone else may have access
If you received an email about an account change that you did not request, PlayStation says someone else may be trying to access the account. First change the password for the email account associated with PlayStation, then follow the PlayStation account recovery guide. If you cannot change the sign-in method, contact PlayStation Support.
Rank #2
- Redeem for anything on PlayStationStore: games, add-ons, PlayStationPlus and more.
- Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
- Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.
If you do not have a PlayStation account but see a PlayStation charge, contact PlayStation Support as soon as possible and change your email password immediately. If your console was stolen, PlayStation recommends signing out on all devices, deactivating consoles, and considering removal of payment methods. If you cannot access your account, contact support promptly.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteRequest a refund or report an unauthorized transaction
For a US PlayStation Store purchase, open the transaction in Transaction History and select Request Refund if that option appears. If it does not, PlayStation says you can still contact Support or use its refund request page. Have your Online ID, sign-in ID (email address), and the name of the purchase ready.
Rank #3
- Redeem for anything on PlayStationStore: games, add-ons, PlayStationPlus and more.
- Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
- Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.
For a charge you believe was made without your consent, follow PlayStation’s unauthorized-transaction guidance rather than assuming the standard refund flow will resolve it. A request is not a guarantee of a refund, and PlayStation’s support pages do not promise one universal processing time for unauthorized-charge cases.
Understand the refund limits that apply
Refund rules vary by purchase category and account region. The following details describe the cited US policy, not a universal PlayStation rule:
Rank #4
- Redeem for anything on PlayStationStore: games, add-ons, PlayStationPlus and more.
- Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
- Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.
- Subscriptions: PlayStation’s US cancellation policy allows a refund request within 14 days of the initial transaction date, even if the subscription has been used. The refund may be reduced pro rata to reflect service received.
- Other Store purchases: Different conditions apply. PlayStation’s US Terms say Store purchases are generally final except where the agreement or current cancellation policy provides otherwise. The policy does not cover retailer gift cards or vouchers.
Read the current PlayStation Store Cancellation Policy for the category and region involved. Do not apply the subscription window to a different type of purchase.
Think carefully before requesting a chargeback
A chargeback is a payment reversal requested from your financial institution. PlayStation says it may suspend an account or console while it investigates a chargeback because it can indicate suspected fraud or account takeover. If PlayStation determines there was no lawful reason for the reversal, it says the account may remain suspended until the debt is repaid.
Best Value
- Redeem for anything on PlayStationStore: games, add-ons, PlayStationPlus and more.
- Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
- Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.
That platform consequence does not determine your legal rights. If you believe a charge is unauthorized, consider the facts and your rights with your financial institution, and use PlayStation’s unauthorized-transaction support route to report the issue. Avoid treating an immediate chargeback as a risk-free substitute for contacting the parties involved.
