How to check the Destiny 2 schedule step by step
- Open the official status page. Look for the newest dated maintenance or update entry, not an old search-result snippet. Open the entry and note the time zone displayed beside the schedule.
- Identify the milestones. When Bungie supplies them, the notice separates the start of maintenance, the point at which services go offline, the expected return-to-game time and the expected completion time. These are different events; the first estimated time at which you can launch the game is not always the time every connected service is restored.
- Read the service-impact notes. Check whether the notice mentions Destiny 2 itself, the Destiny API, Bungie.net, the Destiny Companion, sign-in or third-party integrations. It may also warn that players will be removed from activities, placed in a queue or unable to use clan features.
- Open the notification and update links. The page links to maintenance notifications and, where relevant, patch notes. Follow those links when you need to know whether an update must be installed before you can reconnect.
- Watch the linked status channel during the window. Bungie says players can follow @BNGServerStatus for progress and timeline changes on maintenance or update days. An in-game notice may also warn players who are already signed in shortly before work begins.
- Recheck after the stated return time. Read the newest update, because a delayed operation or a staged restoration can change what is available. Test the game first, then separately test the Companion, Bungie.net or clan features named in the notice.

How to interpret the times on a maintenance notice
Start time
The start time marks when Bungie intends to begin the operation. Players may remain in the game briefly after that point, but that does not mean all services are operating normally. Save progress and avoid beginning a long activity when the start time is near.
Offline time
The offline milestone is the point at which Destiny 2 or related services are expected to become unavailable. Bungie may remove players from activities as the operation progresses. If you are in an activity when the offline period approaches, finish a safe checkpoint or leave rather than risk a disconnect.

Return-to-game time
This is Bungie’s estimate for when players should be able to launch or reconnect. A return-to-game time can arrive before every background system is fully restored. Queues, delayed clan data or unavailable companion features can therefore continue after the game becomes reachable.
Expected completion
Completion is the target for the whole maintenance operation, including supporting services. It is an estimate, not a guarantee. Check for a revised notice if the expected completion passes without a confirmation that services are healthy.
Time-zone handling
Use the time zone printed in the Bungie notice rather than converting from a third-party post. If you share the schedule with a fireteam in another region, convert that single stated time and include the original zone so nobody mistakes a local conversion for a new Bungie estimate.

What can be unavailable even when some players can log in?
Maintenance is not always an all-or-nothing event. Bungie’s notices describe several layers of impact:

- Destiny 2 game services: Major work can take the game offline and remove players from activities.
- Destiny API: API downtime can affect companion applications and integrations even if a client appears to reach the title screen.
- Bungie.net and the Destiny Companion: Web and companion functions may be unavailable separately from the game client.
- Third-party sign-in or integrations: Services that depend on Bungie or platform authentication can fail while the game itself is returning.
- Clan features: Clan information or actions may remain unavailable after players can return to activities.

Do not interpret a successful login as proof that every feature is working. Maintenance, a queue and an outage are different problems
Planned maintenance

Login queue
Bungie explains in its Destiny Server Queues guidance that queues protect population stability during heavy traffic. Destiny 1 and Destiny 2 have separate queues, and wait times vary with concurrent population and demand.
A queue is not itself a maintenance announcement. If you are removed or disconnected, you lose your place. Someone who reaches the front but cannot connect must enter again. Avoid repeatedly closing the game or changing networks while waiting unless you have a clear connection fault, because doing so can forfeit your position. Unexpected outage
An outage can occur without a scheduled maintenance entry. If Bungie’s page has no current planned work but many players report the same failure, check the status channel and your platform’s service page before changing local settings. A platform incident can block authentication even when Bungie’s Destiny services are healthy.

What to do when no Bungie maintenance is listed
- Check the platform first if the symptom is sign-in related. Bungie’s BUDGIE guidance links the relevant PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Steam and Epic Games Store status resources. A platform maintenance event or an account that is not signed in can produce a Destiny error without a Destiny-wide outage.
- Confirm that the game and platform client are updated. A stale build can prevent a connection after maintenance. Allow the console or PC client to finish downloading and installing the latest Destiny update before retrying.

BUDGIE
Bungie says BUDGIE can appear when you are not signed in to your platform account or when platform services are under maintenance. If both are clear and the error continues, follow the BUDGIE help guidance and use Bungie’s Help forum.
CAT
During maintenance, Bungie notes that players may be returned to the title screen with Error Code CAT. CAT generally indicates that the installed game is not on the required current update. Close the game, let the platform install the newest patch, and relaunch only after the update completes.
SHEEP
Bungie associates SHEEP during Fireteam joining with a member running a different game version. Have every member close Destiny 2, install the latest update and reopen the game before attempting to join again. Updating only the player who saw the error may leave another member out of sync.

Bungie’s Update 9.7.0 support guide says the June 9, 2026 update marked the end of planned live-service content updates. That statement concerns planned content releases; it does not mean the servers are permanently static or that maintenance has ended.
Bungie also says it may release future hotfixes for game health and stability. Those hotfixes can require a download, a maintenance window or a temporary service interruption. Continue checking the live status page for notices rather than assuming that the end of planned content updates eliminates future operational work.
Comparing the official status sources
Choose the source by scope and recency. Bungie’s maintenance page answers “What work is scheduled for Destiny?” and usually provides the clearest milestones. @BNGServerStatus answers “Has that window changed?” and is useful for delays or progress during the operation. Give priority to a newly posted update over an old estimate. A search engine result, cached social post or screenshot can preserve a past date. Open the live Bungie page, confirm the date and time zone, then compare the newest status-channel post. If the two appear inconsistent, the latest official update is the one to follow while Bungie reconciles the schedule.
