When Samsung TV sound is out of sync with the picture, first find out whether the delay affects one source or every source. Then, if you use a supported wired audio connection, adjust the TV’s Digital Output Audio Delay in small steps. Bluetooth and other wireless audio can behave differently, and Samsung says TV settings do not resolve sync problems on those connections.
Find out where the delay is coming from
Before changing settings, replay the same scene or program through different paths: a built-in TV app, a broadcast channel if available, and the external box, console, or streamer that usually has the problem. Note which sources are affected.

- One app, channel, file, or external device: Start with that source. A broadcast’s processing or an external device’s signal transmission can contribute to delay, according to Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance. Samsung Australia also recommends comparing with a pre-installed app to help determine whether the issue is source-specific.
- Several sources: Check the audio connection and TV settings. A problem that persists across sources is less likely to be limited to one app or file.
- Only a wireless speaker or headphones: Follow the wireless-specific checks below rather than assuming the TV delay control applies.
Samsung’s cited support pages do not rank causes by frequency, so the comparison is a way to narrow the problem, not a diagnosis by itself.
Adjust audio delay on a supported wired connection
Samsung lists Digital Output Audio Delay for devices connected through HDMI-eARC or SPDIF. The menu path in its guidance is Settings > Sound > Expert Settings > Digital Output Audio Delay. The setting or path may differ or be unavailable depending on TV model and software; Samsung Canada notes that sound settings vary by model year and software.

- Open Settings > Sound > Expert Settings.
- Select Digital Output Audio Delay, if it appears for your connected device.
- Make a small adjustment, then replay the same scene to check whether synchronization improves. Repeat only as needed.
If the sound plays ahead of the picture, Samsung UK advises moving the slider right to increase the number. There is no universal ideal value in Samsung’s guidance, so judge each adjustment against the same scene rather than applying a number from another setup. Handle Bluetooth and other wireless audio separately
Samsung Australia says there are no TV settings that resolve audio-sync issues with Bluetooth or wireless speakers, and notes that wireless transmission can take longer. To isolate the connection, compare the same content using the TV’s internal speakers or a wired audio output. If the wired or built-in output is synchronized but the wireless device is not, check that device’s own settings and support information. This comparison helps locate the issue; it does not guarantee a wireless fix.

If downloaded video is the only problem, check compatibility
When delay occurs only with a downloaded file, consult the manual for your exact TV model and check whether it supports the file’s audio and video formats. Samsung recommends checking supported video codecs, but compatibility depends on the specific model. Do not assume a particular format is unsupported without checking that model’s documentation.
Reset sound settings or check for a software update
If the problem affects multiple sources and remains after the connection checks, Samsung recommends trying a sound reset and checking for a TV software update. Its listed paths are:

- Reset: Settings > Sound > Expert Settings > Reset Sound.
- Update: Settings > Support > Software Update > Update Now.
A sound reset returns sound settings to their defaults, so you may need to restore preferences you previously changed. An available update may help, but Samsung does not guarantee that it will correct an audio-delay problem. Menu labels can vary by model and software; consult your model’s support information if a path differs.

If a soundbar or receiver is connected over HDMI ARC/eARC, confirm that each device is connected to its designated ARC/eARC port and that the cable is seated securely. ARC returns TV audio to a compatible external audio device; it is not a general-purpose explanation for every sync problem. Consider the cable only if you observe an HDMI connection problem, such as an unstable signal or connection. Samsung says poor HDMI cable quality can cause connection issues and that a higher-quality cable may improve signal quality in that context. This does not establish that replacing a cable fixes audio delay in general.
