The right route depends on what you need to verify: use the application tracker with an ARN, Search Taxpayer for public GSTIN information, your logged-in account for your return, or the Electronic Cash Ledger to confirm a payment.
Which GST status check do you need?
| What you want to check | Portal route | What to have ready | Evidence to look for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Registration application progress | Services > Registration > Track Application Status | Application Reference Number (ARN) | The current application status in the tracker |
| Whether a GSTIN is active and public filing details | Search Taxpayer | GSTIN, UIN, or PAN | Taxpayer status and the available registration and return-filing details |
| Your own return for a particular period | Log in and open the return dashboard or history | GST account and return period | A completed “Filed” status and filing acknowledgment/reference |
| Whether a payment reached your GST account | Payment tracking and Electronic Cash Ledger | Challan and payment details | The amount credited to the Electronic Cash Ledger (GST PMT-05) |
How do I check my GST registration application status?
- Open the official GST Portal.
- Go to Services > Registration > Track Application Status.
- Enter the ARN issued after you submitted the registration application and view the current status.
A saved application that has not been submitted remains a draft; it is not a filed application with an ARN. The GST Portal registration guide describes the status changing from “Draft” to “Pending for Validation” after submission, and directs applicants to track the ARN in the portal. See the GST registration guide.

Read any clarification request, order, or other instruction shown in the application record and respond through the portal as directed. There is no universal Kerala-specific processing time established for every application, so rely on the live status and notices rather than an assumed deadline.
How can I check whether a GST number is active?
- On the GST Portal, open Search Taxpayer.
- Choose the search option and enter the GSTIN, UIN, or PAN.
- Review the taxpayer identity, GSTIN/UIN status, registration or cancellation details, and return-filing information displayed.
This public search does not require a login and is useful when checking a supplier or looking up publicly available filing details. The official Search Taxpayer guide explains the lookup and the details it can show. A public result is not a substitute for the full records in the taxpayer’s logged-in account.

How do I see if my GST return was filed?
- Log in to the GST Portal using the taxpayer’s account.
- Open the return dashboard or return history and select the relevant return period.
- Check for a completed “Filed” status and retain the acknowledgment or reference generated on filing.
For GSTR-3B, the official filing instructions state that the status changes to “Filed” after successful filing. The GSTR-3B filing guide describes that status. Use the period-specific account record as the confirmation for your own return; a public taxpayer search is only a quick view of information exposed there.
How can I check my GST payment status?
- Use the GST Portal’s payment tracking or challan records to inspect the transaction.
- Open the Electronic Cash Ledger and check whether the amount is credited there.
- Match the ledger entry to the challan and bank reference, and keep those details if the portal does not show the expected credit.
A debit in your bank account and a credit in the GST Electronic Cash Ledger are distinct events. GST Portal guidance says the payment is credited to the ledger after successful confirmation from the bank. If your bank shows a debit but the portal has not confirmed the transaction or credited the ledger, do not treat the payment as posted based on the bank entry alone. Check the portal’s payment records and ledger; the online payment FAQ explains the confirmation and credit sequence.

- Keep the relevant ARN, GSTIN, return period, challan details, and bank reference together.
- Read the specific notice, clarification request, order, or transaction message in the portal and follow its instructions.
- Use official GST Portal help for a status or payment mismatch instead of assuming what an unfamiliar message means.
- If you need professional assistance, GSTN identifies GST Practitioners as able to assist with registration, returns, and payments. Use the GST Portal to find the practitioner locator and verify a practitioner’s credentials and suitability before engaging them.
