Why the JavaScript loader and WASM file must ship together
A loader that refers to a Wasm module is only one part of the deployable Worker. Cloudflare documents .wasm and .wasm?module imports as WebAssembly modules, and shows importing a Wasm file, instantiating it, and calling its exports in the Worker. The corresponding binary must therefore be available as a module in the deployed package; a loader without its referenced file leaves the deployment incomplete. The practical build rule is to keep the generated JavaScript entrypoint and the exact Wasm file it imports within the same build output and deployable package. This is a packaging recommendation based on Cloudflare’s documented module model, not a claim that a particular unnamed repository has a known fix or requires checksum validation.

How Wrangler can include the binary
Use Wrangler’s normal bundling first
Wrangler bundling is enabled by default. Its configuration supports module rules for files alongside the Worker entrypoint, and the documented rule types include CompiledWasm with file globs. If ordinary import handling does not include the required binary, configure a rule that matches the Wasm file. Consult the Wrangler configuration reference for the supported rule syntax and project-specific configuration format.

Account for no-bundle builds
If you deploy with --no-bundle, Wrangler does not process the code, and bundler features are unavailable. Do not assume a rule or import-processing behavior from the bundled workflow will take care of the binary in that mode; verify that your build itself emits the required files in the deployable output. Cloudflare describes this distinction in its bundling documentation.
Verify the deployment package before publishing
- Build the Worker. Produce the JavaScript loader and the corresponding Wasm binary in the intended output location.
- Run Wrangler’s dry run:
npx wrangler deploy --dry-run --outdir dist. Cloudflare documents this command for writing generated deployment material to an output directory; see Wrangler’s deploy command reference. - Inspect the output directory. Confirm it contains the expected Worker code and the matching
.wasmmodule. Check that the import path in the loader resolves to the module included in that output. - Deploy only after the artifact check passes. The dry run makes the generated deployment material inspectable; checking the loader-to-binary pairing is the practical verification step.
This check verifies package contents and path consistency. The cited Cloudflare guidance does not require a checksum scheme, and a successful dry run alone should not be described as proof that an unnamed project’s runtime behavior has been tested.

Rust Workers: confirm Wrangler receives the worker-build output
For Rust projects using workers-rs, Cloudflare describes worker-build as generating the JavaScript entrypoint, bundling JavaScript, and producing a directory Wrangler can deploy. Make sure Wrangler deploys that generated directory, then use the dry-run output check to confirm the Wasm file is present beside the code that references it. Cloudflare also cautions that unoptimized Rust Wasm can be large; its Rust Workers documentation discusses the build output and optimization considerations.
WASM loading detail that can affect the implementation
Cloudflare’s bundling documentation states: “Cloudflare Workers does not support WebAssembly.instantiateStreaming().” Follow the import and instantiation approach documented for Workers rather than assuming a streaming-instantiation pattern from another runtime will work.
