There is no universal way to charge a tablet without using its charging port. The realistic options depend on the exact model: a few tablets have a manufacturer-approved dock that charges without a cable into the port, and everything else still needs a working connection at the tablet. If the port is loose or damaged, the fix is usually repair rather than a workaround.
Start by identifying the tablet and the problem
Charging options are model-specific, so begin by noting the exact make and model, usually printed on the back of the tablet or shown in its settings under About. Then decide which situation you are in, because each has a different solution:

- The port works, but you have no charger. You need a compatible power adapter and cable, or a computer that can supply power over USB.
- The port is loose, intermittent, or physically damaged. A new charger will not fix this, and forcing a cable can make the damage worse.
Port-independent options exist only for specific models
A compatible dock is the only documented method in the sources reviewed that does not rely on a cable into the port, and it applies to particular models. Google’s Pixel Tablet help page says the tablet can charge when attached to its Charging Speaker Dock. That accessory is documented for the Pixel Tablet only, not as a general dock for any tablet. Zebra’s documentation for its ET6-series rugged tablets likewise lists compatible docks for those devices. Check your manufacturer’s charging page for a dock or charging-contact option before buying anything.
Wireless charging is not a dependable fallback. The sources reviewed do not establish a universal tablet wireless-charging method, or a receiver that works with an unspecified model. Do not buy a generic wireless receiver or dock on the assumption that it will work with your tablet.

Charging methods compared
| Method | Still uses the tablet’s port? | Compatibility limit | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| USB-C cable from a power adapter | Yes | Requires a working USB-C port on the tablet | Google Support, Pixel Tablet charging page |
| Computer USB charging | Yes, the cable still connects to the tablet | Documented for supported USB-C iPads and the HMD T21; charging may be slower | Apple Support; HMD user guide |
| Charging Speaker Dock | Not stated in the cited source | Pixel Tablet only, per Google’s documentation | Google Support, Pixel Tablet charging page |
| Dock for rugged enterprise tablets | Not stated in the cited source | Compatible docks listed for ET6-series devices only | Zebra Technologies, ET6x Quick Start Guide |

Charging from a computer
A computer is an alternate power source, not a way around the port. HMD’s user guide says the T21 can charge from a computer over USB, and it notes that this may take longer than charging from a wall adapter. Apple’s support page documents computer USB charging for supported USB-C iPads. In both cases a cable must still be plugged into the tablet’s port, so this helps only when the port itself is working.
Troubleshooting by symptom
- The port is intact and the charger is missing: use a compatible USB-C cable and a power adapter, or try a computer’s USB port if your model supports USB charging from a computer. Expect slower charging from a computer.
- The port works only at certain angles or the cable falls out: treat this as a hardware problem. Google advises contacting support when a Pixel Tablet’s port is loose. Stop using the port until it has been checked.
- The port looks burned, melted, or corroded: stop charging the tablet. Google’s guidance is to contact support, and the same caution applies to any model with visible port damage.
- Your tablet has a separate dock or charging contacts: confirm the dock is listed as compatible with your exact model in the manufacturer’s documentation before relying on it.
- The model is unknown: do not rely on a wireless receiver, generic dock, or port-repair kit. Identify the model first, then check its supported charging methods.
Repair is the realistic route for a damaged port
A replacement port or a repair service becomes relevant once you know the model and the nature of the damage. Start with the manufacturer’s support channel, which can tell you whether the port is covered and what authorized repair involves. Local repair shops may also be an option, but the sources reviewed do not establish the reliability of any specific third-party repair service or part, so verify those separately.

Official wording you can search
Google’s Pixel Tablet help page describes the wired method this way: “To charge your Pixel Tablet without a Charging Speaker Dock, plug a USB cable into your tablet’s USB-C port from a power adaptor plugged into a power source.” The same page says: “To charge your tablet, you can use a USB-C cable or attach it to a Charging Speaker Dock.” Both statements apply to the Pixel Tablet specifically. Google’s troubleshooting page covers the related problem of a tablet that will not charge or turn on, and it is the right starting point if the tablet shows no response when plugged in.

Search with the model name and the symptom. Queries such as “[model] won’t charge with USB-C cable” or “[model] USB-C port is damaged” will return the manufacturer’s own pages, which are more reliable than generic workaround guides.
